Gamer stereotypes, true or false? The image of a die-hard gamer is usually portrayed as a non-athletic individual slouched in the dark, stuffing Doritos down their throat while chugging on Mountain Dew.
Does it sound familiar? I’m partially guilty of this, and I can’t deny. Gaming is our hobby and is supposed to bring joy, relaxation, and reduce everyday stress. More often than not, gaming sessions get so intense and fierce that we forget about everything else. We even forget to blink, let alone consider our health and safety.
Healthy gaming lifestyle seems a bit of an oxymoron. Play and defeat first, worry about your body and mind later. The end results? Laziness, bad eating habits, bad back, sore eyes, and finally, the doctor’s office. You can’t play any games during a medical checkup, now can you? Good news is, you don’t have to follow this path of debauchery that will lead to serious consequences.
Bad habits are reversible. Hard to do, but not impossible.
In this article, I’m going to give you tips and advice that will improve your gaming lifestyle, and prolong your ‘stay in the game’.

I love soda. You love soda. Everybody loves soda. But it might be bad and evil when taken infrequently and in large quantities.
The key here is hydration. You simply need water. Water helps muscles and joints work better, and that will inevitably level-up your performance. Another benefit is promoting cardiovascular health. We sit for hours, and the last thing we want is heart issues. Keep track of your water intake by bottles with a time marker, like the H2OCOACH.
Skip soda and start drinking water. If you want a more flavorful drink, then you can also add juice in your hydration routines. There are a lot of easy juice recipes in the book The Big Book of Juices. They are yummy and healthy too.

When it is our day off, holiday, or any spare hour at our disposal, we are itching to get hands on our gaming machines. Understandable as this is, make sure you treat yourself to a healthy balanced meal first. Doughnuts and potato chips don’t count. A good meal will increase energy levels and improve your gaming spree.
A well-balanced diet can fight off various diseases and health issues. It can also help in maintaining healthy body weight, provide energy, and improve brain function. Head on to battle fully equipped with good food supplies. And don’t worry if you can’t cook that well. I found a great cookbook titled ‘What the F*@# Should I Make for Dinner?’. It is simple and delicious.

Don’t try to deny it, we have all been there. We start off by having a bad game then the next thing you know is you’re going bananas and slamming your peripherals around blinded by anger. We can’t avoid bad games, and we are not Faker that can have god-like League of Legends KDA. We make mistakes, we lose, and that is normal. Breathe!
Remember that when we are angry, we expose ourselves to health issues such as headaches, digestion problems, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and high blood pressure. Sounds intimidating, right? How can we avoid this? First, take a break and catch your breath. Calm down. Using some stress balls or fidget devices will also keep your mind preoccupied, and cool you off. If you have a diffuser mixing in some therapeutic oils will do the trick. It will not only make the air cleaner, but it will also relax your mind.
After all, you will perform worse if you are driven by rage, so relax. Watch some cat videos, take a walk. Come back refreshed and energized to take back all your lost LP.

The real challenge. I know how busy you are and how hectic your schedule is. No excuses, you still need to find the time for exercise; it will strengthen your heart and improve your blood circulation. And as doctors say, at this modern age of always sitting around, our heart is at risk more than ever. So, in doing exercises, you will have an increased blood flow that will raise the oxygen levels in your body.
Though I’m aware that going to the gym might seem dreadful to you, a run around the block will do the trick. And keep in mind that the gym does not only offer bench presses and treadmills. You can enroll yourself in a fight class. It doesn’t matter if you are not young anymore. Learning martial arts is awesome no matter the age. Muay Thai, Krav Maga, and Jiujitsu are just some of the good pieces of training that you can do. It will not only fortify your body and burn unwanted fats, but it will also make you a little bit closer to your gaming badass counterparts, a.k.a. Your Character.

There is a way to prevent us from falling down this endless slide. Invest in a big clock, yes, a clock. Make sure that the time is so boldly written that you can never miss it. The big clock reminder will also remind you of predetermined breaks. Make sure to follow a schedule that you will set yourself. Gaming is all fun until you abuse your game time and eventually get sick.
Keep A Good Posture
Sitting all day and grinding some good ol’ Black Desert is tempting. But sitting all day has detrimental consequences, especially if your posture is bad. We must know that poor posture will put stress on the muscles, joints, and ligaments. Ultimately this will cause pain and nerve damage. Symptoms would be back, neck, and shoulder pains.

Long-term sleep deprivation will also increase the risk of chronic conditions, such as diabetes and heart diseases.
Therefore, when it’s your time for bed, don’t dawdle and just go! Remember, not sleeping properly will weaken your immune system, and increase your stress. And stress means bad gameplay, so rest up and get a snooze on. Getting good sleeping gears will also improve the quality of your rest. Consider investing in some.

Most video games are played while seated. Nevertheless, there are games that require you to stand up when you play. Treat these games as extra exercise, as it will help you stretch and strengthen your back, leg, and neck muscles.

You can also try gaming while standing up. Know that sitting on your bum for hours is dangerous. When you sit down for long periods, you spend less energy than you do when you stand or move. Research has linked this lousy habit to several health concerns. Too much sitting overall and for prolonged periods will increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer. So invest in a table that will promote gaming while standing.
Love your body! It is your temple. Start following the above tips today, and you will find yourself healthier and more active. Gaming is great, but we must also keep in mind that our wellness in superior. After all, if you got sick and your body failed you, you wouldn’t be able to game as much as you would desire. Moderation, patience and consistency are key elements. Negligence is your worst enemy. The seed of ideal gaming will undoubtedly grow quicker and steadier if sawn in healthy soil.
