The Nintendo Switch was released in November and since then Overwatch players have been asking when they would have a port of their favorite game integrated into the system.

As usual, Blizzard representatives addressed players’ questions in the battle.net forums. They said that for the time being, the chances of meeting fans’ demands are slim.

Earlier this year, Jeff Kaplan said that Blizzard has not completely dashed out the possibility of getting Overwatch on the Switch but the process would be quite challenging. Kaplan emphasized that the simultaneous maintenance of three platforms and patch releases was already challenging. Still, Blizzard was open to the idea of “revisiting its performance” and consider a Nintendo Switch port.

Meanwhile, Overwatch players took things into their own hands. An Overwatch fan used a new app to make the game run on the Nintendo Switch handheld device. The name of the app in question is Rainway.

Essentially, the Rainway app enables players to stream a PC game on mobile devices such as tablets. The app creators revealed that all games would run at 60fps provided that the device supports DirectX 11.

However, there is a major catch. The Nintendo Switch serves as a second monitor and players still need additional hardware. Although a keyboard and a mouse need to be attached to the Nintendo Switch off camera, fans are excited at the idea of having such an app at their fingertips.

As a matter of fact, the app would allow players to run not only Overwatch, but also Call of Duty WWII, Destiny 2, Batman Arkham Knight, The Witcher 3, and even the highly anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2.

The Rainway app is still in the works. Upon its launch, it will support a maximum resolution of 1080P. It will be free to download and developers promise trouble-free registration and installation. Additional hardware will not be needed, either. However, one important question emerges. Will Nintendo be happy with the release of such an app?
