As reported by RealGear, Dota 2 developer Valve met a barrage of criticism upon the introduction of the Artifact game. However, it seems the tension has escalated and Half Life fans took the matter to Steam where they expressed their frustration with the lack of action on Valve’s end.
Dota 2 is, without a doubt, one of the vivid examples of a successful MOBA. Having said that, players expected Valve to work on other highly-anticipated titles such as Half-Life.
Fans of the shooter believe that Dota 2 is the reason why Valve has abandoned Half-Life 3. Over the last few days, HL fans have flooded the Dota 2 Steam page with bad reviews and sarcastic comments.
The Steam reviewers define Dota 2 as the “game that killed HL3”. Some players encouraged Valve to break the silence and insisted that the developer owes them an explanation.
One of the reasons for the massive outcry was the fact that last week, the former Half-Life Series’ developer Mark Laidlaw gave some insights into the Half Life 2: Episode 3 plot. However, Laidlaw’s revelations were taken as a proof that Valve has completely given up on the Half-Life franchise.
As a matter of fact, it has been eleven years since Valve announced the “upcoming” Half Life 2: Episode 3. There has been no word whatsoever about the eventual release of Half-Life 3 and fans’ patience seem to have reached its limit.
Since the announcement about the third Half-Life episode, Valve has released Portal 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 games. Nevertheless, Half-Life fans made Valve’s most successful MOBA a scapegoat for the HL3 mishaps.
