Earlier today, the developer of Friday the 13th: The Game announced via Facebook that the physical edition of the game will be launched on Xbox, Steam, and PS4 on… well… October 13th, (Friday, the 13th). It will arrive at a suggested price of $40.
Friday the 13th: The Game was launched on May 26th and since then it has been available in digital format only. Players who have pre-ordered a physical copy were given a key. Now, it seems IllFonic’s team has geared up towards a physical edition release, which disproves the accusations that the developer has neglected Friday the 13th because of the Dead Alliance.
Apart from the content available at the digital version, players who get the physical edition for consoles will be granted some “exclusive” DLC. The Bloody Jason skin will be usable on “all playable Jasons”. Players will also be awarded a free pack of clothing for each of the “playable camp counselors”.
For the time being, IllFonic and Gun Media have not confirmed whether players who do not want to purchase the physical edition will be able to obtain the DLC that comes with the physical copy.
Since Friday the 13th’s launch IllFonic and Gun Media have faced a lot of criticism and one of the most recent issues was related to the Kickstarter exclusive skins available to all players. Likewise, players who purchase the physical edition will not be amused when they find out that the free DLC does not have an exclusive status anymore.
Players who have experienced the rocky servers issue upon game’s release expressed their fears that the same scenario will happen when the physical launch takes place. Still, IllFonic is expected to take precautions this time around and ensure servers are stable on the retail launch day.
