Doomfist Joins Overwatch Cast of Characters on July 27

Overwatch fans are well aware that Doomfist is currently live on PTR but mere hours ago, Blizzard revealed that the character would be added to PC, Xbox One, and PS4 consoles on July 27th. Along with the announcement about Doomfist’s inclusion in the game, Blizzard has also released a video where members of the development team comment on the destructive power and melee-style abilities of one of the most anticipated heroes.

In the video, Jeff Kaplan, Overwatch’s director, says that although Doomfist is considered a villain, he was not necessarily bad. However, the more interesting aspect of the video concerns the idea behind Doomfist creation. Members of Overwatch development team explained that all they had in mind when creating the character sketches was his name.

Doomfist went live on PTR on July 6th. Blizzard wanted to make sure that hero’s melee-driven play style fits well with the abilities of the other characters in the roster. Expectedly, his departure from the PTR will bring some balance changes. The official Doomfist release will be the first interaction of console players with the legendary hero.

Doomfist’s release has been one of the dominant topics in Overwatch forums, so it is safe to say that when he goes live next week, there will be many fans who would give him a go.

As reported by RealGear, data miners have previously discovered that Doomfist would arrive alongside the Summer Games. That theory makes sense, as Blizzard will give some time to players to get used to Doomfist before introducing the content prepared for the Summer Games.

The developer has recently added some Doomfist skins to the PTR, but data miners found out that there were more on the way. According to observant Overwatch fans, Doomfist will get 4 Cosmetic items during the Summer Games. They draw different arguments in support of that suggestion, but the most convincing among them is that Doomfist is a new release. Therefore, Blizzard would be willing to focus on sprays and emotes, especially if the hero gets 4 or 5 fantastic legendaries.
