CYBER Gadget announced that it would unleash a new keyboard accessory for the Nintendo Switch console. It will allow players to dock the Joy-Con on the left and right sides of the keyboard. The accessory will be compatible with PC and PS4 consoles. According to people with knowledge of the matter, the accessory will be mainly utilized in games that have an in-chat game system.
The CYBER Gadget accessory will work in the following manner. The right and left Joy-Con controllers are connected to the keyboard. This would allow gamers to use the accelerometer and gyro controls and communicate with fellow players while playing online games.
The developer has not specified how the device would pair up with the Switch, but it will most probably use a USB connection. However, the keyboard will not be able to charge the Joy-Con remotes.
Players did not deny the advantages of the keyboard accessory, but they did not spare their criticism, too. The keyboard accessory resembles a mini-keyboard that allows players to chat on the Switch, but it lacks the number pad on the right side, typical of standard keyboards. It will also be a bit more expensive than the mini-pads, unleashed by other companies and currently available on the market. also, the device will not be compatible with Xbox consoles.
However, the biggest drawback Nintendo fans outlined was the fact that currently, the number of games where a physical mini keyboard is needed, are too few. The CYBER Gadget device seems to be designed with upcoming games in mind such as the Dragon Quest X.
The keyboard accessory is not the first device of its kind, though. Previously, another gaming accessory company, Hori, crafted a keyboard for the Nintendo Switch. However, the unit did not meet developer’s expectations in terms of popularity.
The CYBER Gadget keyboard accessory will be released in Japan at the end of September at a suggested price of 3,578 yen (approx. $32). There is no information about its international distribution and availability at online retailers.
