The hardware maker Razer announced that it has updated one of its bestsellers – the BlackWidow Ultimate mechanical keyboard and added water- and dust resistant features.

Razer’s CEO Min-Liang Tan, commented on the Blackwidow’s Ultimate upgrade and said that the company was actively working towards improving the performance of the existing keyboards. He pointed that the BlackWidow Ultimate is now more durable than ever and added that this is the first Razer-branded mechanical keyboard to have water and dust resistance capabilities.

The updated keyboard is IP54 rated. The “5” indicates that it is dust-resistant. In other words, the dust particles will not collect within the device and disrupt its normal operation. The “4” shows that the keyboard is protected against accidentally spilled beverages.

Other than that, there are no other major upgrades. The upgraded BlackWidow Chroma is a 104-key keyboard that features Razer’s proprietary Green switches, often compared to the Cherry MX Blue ones. However, the Green switches are slated to withstand 80 million key presses and ensure a “clicky” feedback.

The keyboard comes with 50G actuation force and 1000Hz polling rate. It also has a microphone jack port, a headphone jack port, as well as a USB port.

Each key is individually backlit. The color patterns are customizable via the Razer Synapse software. The latter enables players to record macros on-the-fly and use various button combinations to easily access the saved macros.

The updated BlackWidow Ultimate mechanical keyboard retails at $110. It can be purchased directly via the Razer Store. It is expected to be available at major online third-party retailers in Q4 2017.
