Overwatch’s Roadhog Likely to Undergo More Changes Soon

Overwatch’s hero Roadhog has recently received a nerf, which was intended to decrease his position in meta. Now, Roadhog can no longer one-shot Mercy, McCree, Zenyatta, Soldier76 and the other 200 health heroes. In exchange for the nerf, he received a faster fire rate and bigger clip. However, it turned out that Roadhog is not as a popular pick in competitive matches as he used to be before the changes. That is why Blizzard has decided to take actions and impose some changes.

Initially, Blizzard announced that the hero was to receive a slight damage nerf that would prevent him from being the most overpowered Overwatch hero. However, Roadhog mains were devastated by the loss of their tank’s place in the meta. The growing number of complaints left Blizzard with no choice but to take a stance on the matter and inform players about the chance of reverting the previously imposed changes.

Geoff Goodman, Overwatch’s Principal Designer, announced that Blizzard was currently working on a solution that would make all affected parties happy. He announced that Roadhog’s offensive strength will most probably remain unchanged, and added that Blizzard was more focused on refining his defenses rather than his offensive capabilities. Goodman did not rule out the option of an increase in Roadhog’s survivability.

Prior to the nerf, Roadhog could dish a huge amount of damage with his hook/ shot combo. It posed no difficulty for him to finish off squishy heroes and deal considerable damage to powerful tanks. The most recent update brought dramatic changes to his playstyle. Consequently, the number of players who choose him as a character was decreased.

Roadhog is the only tank hero who does not have initial shield or armor and relies on his self-healing ability. However, the current meta is too fast-paced and instead of gaining back his lost health, Roadhog remains open for free hits against Tracer or Doomfist.

Fans keep their fingers crossed that Roadhog will receive some much-needed armor. This way, he would be able to absorb more damage for his team and distract enemies at the same time.

Goodman’s announcement does not imply that Blizzard is keen on bringing back the “one hook, one kill”. Nevertheless, fans do not regard Roadhog as a bad hero. On the contrary, the majority of them keep pointing his superiority to the other Overwatch tank members.
