Plantronics to Launch Dolby Atmos-Enabled Headsets

A few days ahead of the start of E3, Plantronics posted a press release announcing it has teamed up with Dolby Laboratories. The result of the joint venture will be the release of three new models of headsets – Plantronics RIG 400LX, RIG 600LX, and the wireless RIG 800LX, respectively.

The headsets will be compatible with Windows 10 PC and Xbox One console. Each pair of headphones comes with a code that let users activate the Dolby Atmos for Headphones setting. Users will be able to activate the Dolby Atmos for Headphones at no additional cost.

Jack Reynolds, Gaming Director for Plantronics, was reached to comment the new partnership and the upcoming headsets’ release. He was quoted as saying that Plantronics’ main objective was taking the headsets’ sound quality to a whole new level. The company considered Dolby as the most suitable partner to help them achieve the desired heightened experience.

As for Dolby Laboratories, company’s audio noise reduction technologies and the Dolby Atmos, in particular, is considered a game-changer as far as the in-game sound is concerned. The company uses innovative methods for stretching the audio quality beyond the 2-D stereo channels. The RIG gaming headsets, featuring Dolby Atmos for Headphones will enable gamers to hear sounds coming from above and below, front and the back.

Spencer Hooks, Director, Games at Dolby, also commented on the new partnership. He said that working in collaboration with Plantronics enabled Dolby to provide gamers with “more intimate and accurate sense of the digital world”.

Apart from the Dolby Atmos feature, the RIG headsets will feature sound isolating earcups. Users will also be able to enjoy convenient audio controls. The headphones will be made of durable, lightweight materials. Plantronics promises a pleasant surprise as far as versatility is concerned.

Although the release date has not been specified yet, the new headsets are expected to have their debut no later than the fall of 2017. The RIG 400LX will sell for $99.99, the RIG 600LX will cost $129.00. The price of the wireless 800LX headsets is set at $149.00.
