Sony announced that the PS Plus subscription price is to be increased as of August 31st. The company sent out emails, informing its Europe-based members that from August 31st onwards, the annual service will cost £49.99 in the UK and €59.99 in the other European countries.

Sony announced that the PS Plus subscription price is to be increased as of August 31st. The company sent out emails, informing its Europe-based members that from August 31st onwards, the annual service will cost £49.99 in the UK and €59.99 in the other European countries.

The email, Sony sent to its European subscribers does not state the reason that brought about the change. It is focused around the mechanics of how the price increase will be imposed.

As for the quarterly subscriptions, the price jumps from £14.99/€19.99 to £19.99/€24.99. Members who have a monthly subscription currently pay £5.99/€6.99. However, at the end of August, they will have to pay £6.99/€7.99 per month. The email says that existing members who owe a recurring subscription fee on or after August 31st will be charged at the new price.

In other words, the annual price will see a 20% rise, while members who use the quarterly service will pay 33% more. Sony is yet to release an official statement on the matter outlining the reasons for the price hike.

However, people familiar with the matter suggested that the company is trying to balance its prices worldwide after last year’s increase in North America. Others put forward the idea that Brexit is to blame for the price increase in the UK.  The gaming industry in the UK was thrown into turmoil after the exit poll. As reported earlier, Riot Games was one of the companies that clearly explained that the fall in the value of the pound has led to a change in the Riot Points price.

As for the PS Plus subscribers, they will have access to the same benefits including an online multiplayer, two PS4 games per month, different discounts and 10GB online storage. There is no telling whether Sony will add new features. If it does not, the price jump is expected to spark an outcry among European PS players as they will not be reluctant to pay more for the same range of services.
