Sony has removed the Anthem trailer published on its PlayStation YouTube channel.
During the weekend, fans discovered that the official PS4 trailer for the Anthem was a Photoshopped version of the Xbox One X footage. They spotted that the footage was edited so that it can overlay the PS4 controls. What made them suspicious was the lack of PS4 DualShock Button prompts. They defined the trailer content as an unsuccessful attempt for Photoshopping the button prompts over the Xbox One inputs.
The video in question has already been taken down. Expectations are a new version to be uploaded soon. The majority of fans praised Sony for having acted quickly towards resolving the issue. However, others accused it of employing dishonest practices.
The majority of players defined the “accident” as a tempest in a teapot and said that this was not the first occasion when a trailer is “adapted” for different platforms. Sony is not the first company that applies the method of editing the button prompts over the same footage. However, the difference is that the Anthem footage was promoted as an example of the power of the Xbox One X.
The trailer release was one of the most exciting events during the E3. It emphasized on the exclusive technical specs of the soon-to-be-released Microsoft console. That’s why the video Sony uploaded seemed as if the company was trying to attribute these specs to the PS4 console.
It remains unknown if the mistake was made “on purpose” with the aim of reminding that the Anthem will be compatible with PS4 or not. At the time of writing, none of the affected parties has released a statement on the matter. The lack of information created speculations that the PS4 Pro Anthem version will be similar to the Xbox One X version.
Anthem’s developer is BioWare. Electronic Arts is game’s publisher. Anthem is to be released across all platforms in fall 2018.
