It seems SteelSeries has been on a roll lately as soon after the announcement about the Rival 310 gaming mouse, the company introduced the Apex 150 gaming keyboard. The biggest selling point of the Apex keyboard is its splash-proof capability. The internal membrane sheet protects the internal electronics from accidentally spilled beverages. Even if the user spills a large amount of liquid, the two drainage cavities would remedy the situation.
The Apex 150 is not a mechanical keyboard. To keep the costs low, SteelSeries has settled for a rubber dome setup. The keyboard features the so-called “quick tension switch system” that ensures lower friction and enhanced durability.
The Apex 150 comes with RGB backlighting configurable in five different zones. The keys are designed to withstand at least 20 million presses.
SteelSeries explained that the quick tension keys are designed to provide fast reaction times. The design of the tension membrane itself delivers “tactile key feel and quiet operation.”
The Apex 150 is devoid of gaming or macro keys but each key is configurable via the SteelSeries software. The keyboard comes with anti-ghosting capabilities, 24-key rollover, and a Discord integration. The latter is a chat notification option that is also present at the Apex M750. The Discord allows gamers to customize the keyboard so that they get notifications about new messages, mute status, and more.
The SteelSeries engine also includes options such as the GameSense, Audio Visualizer, and PrismSync. The GameSense provides reactive illumination which responds to various in-game events such as kills, health, cooldown timers, low ammo and more. The Audio Vizualizer enables users to sync the keyboard illumination with a chosen playlist. The PrismSync synchronizes the lighting effects between the Apex 150 and the SteelSeries Prism-enabled devices.
The Apex 150 gaming keyboard arrives at the suggested price of $50. It will be available at third-party online retailers at the beginning of October.
