Mere hours ago, Blizzard awoke Overwatch fans’ curiosity with some intricate images. The developer has released a cryptic blog post that was interpreted as a possible hint at the arrival of a new map and a new hero.

In previous announcements, Jeff Kaplan, Overwatch director, has confirmed that Blizzard was working on six new maps. The latest images published in Overwatch’s blog fuel the beliefs that this is one of these maps.

The series of images are related to the Horizon Lunar Colony. At a press conference, held earlier today, Luncheng Interstellar announced that the Lunar Colony databases were still operational.

The Horizon Lunar Colony is a moonbase where scientists worked with genetically enhanced gorillas with the aim of testing the prolonged habitation in space. However, the gorillas sparked off a major rebellion, and the colony went offline. Shortly after that, all contact was discontinued.

It was also confirmed that the interpersonnel logs sent before the base lost contact with Earth have been retrieved. Although the connection to Horizon Lunar Colony is troublesome, Luncheng also retrieved an image from the monitoring system. However, that image raised questions related to Winston and Hammond’s absence.

Just like every new piece of information regarding Overwatch, the publication has quickly become a central topic in gaming forums. Players seemed confused about what to expect from Blizzard.

According to previous announcements, Blizzard is going to slow down the release of new heroes and launch no more than 3 or 4 of them per year. On the other hand, the images are a discreet hint at a new Overwatch map set on the moon. There is also a chance all the fuss to be related to a new comic issue or a lore update.

Most Overwatch fans are truly realistic in their expectations and do not even dare to think about a new gorilla hero.

The scarce information made room for intense speculation. Still, fans expect Blizzard to reveal more details in the next few days. The developer has repeatedly mentioned that it was not interested in dragging out Overwatch teases. Nevertheless, avid fans hurried up to remind that a few months ago, Blizzard made them believe that the Doomfist is to be released. Instead, they got Orisa.

Overwatch Season 4 has recently wrapped up. Doomfist release date is also approaching. Expectations are that Blizzard will provide more information about the map during Season 5 that kicks off on May 31st.
