UK-based League of Legends players got some not so wonderful news from Riot Games. During a board meeting, Riot’s “Benshirro” announced that from July 25 onwards, an increase of 20% in the Riot Points price will be imposed.

He pointed Brexit as a reason for the drastic increase and hurried up to clarify that this was a one-time change aimed at restoring the balance in RP pricing globally.

Riot posted an announcement explaining that last June, the Brits decided to leave the European Union. As a result, a significant fall in the value of the pound was noticed. The drop has led to the increased Riot Points price.

It is important to note that the cost of skins, champions and other in-game stuff will remain unchanged. The increase affects only the in-game currency used for buying these items.

Expectedly, the announcement caused a wave of discontent among the UK LoL communities. Some players suggested hoarding up Riot Points until 25th of July. Others accused Riot of taking advantage of their soft spot for LoL and leaving them no choice but to accept the increase.

Riot has implemented some new price points, too. Due to the fact that few players were interested in purchasing the £2.50 RP tier, the publisher introduced a new one at £15.

The main reason for players’ displeasure is that they will have to pay more money for a skin and be left with extra Riot Points they do not need or want. For instance, the most common skin can be purchased for 975 RP and players have to pay £5. However, from July 25th onwards, they will have to pay £10 to get the same skin and have 675 RP left.

Back in 2016, more than 52% of the UK citizens have voted to leave the EU. Since then, gamers have been interested in the negative consequences Brexit would have on the e-sports segment. Video games’ industry is already suffering. Apart from Riot, Blizzard announced that it is to increase the Hearthstone card price packs. Apple has also notified app developers that a 25% increase for the UK App Store should be expected.
