Blizzard just announced that the Horizon Lunar Colony would go live on June 20th, 2017. The new map will arrive with the latest Overwatch patch 1.12. Players will be able to explore the base and uncover more of the story regarding the home of the game’s scientist gorilla, Winston. More precisely, they will find out why he left the Moon in the first place.

Apart from telling a story, the map also brings new ways for enhancing players’ experience. The Horizon Lunar Colony map features new gameplay elements, the low gravity areas being among them. These areas can bring exciting matches in casual and competitive play modes.

As for the Overwatch Public Test Region, it is still available, but it will most probably be taken down in preparation for the next patch.

Blizzard also posted a behind-the-scenes video explaining some curious facts about the new map and its creation.

Overwatch Director, Jeff Kaplan, commented that the map release would be followed by a lot of analysis so that the publisher can determine the tuning decisions and upcoming balance.

Mr. Kaplan also said that developers wanted to capture some of the most important Recall moments in the map. He added that Blizzard knew players have seen those moments and wanted to “relive them for themselves”.

Overwatch players will almost take over the role of detectives. They will face the challenge of putting all pieces together and finding what went wrong on the moon and what made Winston leave the colony and head to Earth.

Apart from the insights into the new Horizon Lunar Colony Map, Blizzard officials also confirmed that the balance changes introduced along with the PTR update will also go live on June 20th. Reaper, Roadhog, and McCree will be the heroes that will be most affected by the new patch.

As reported earlier, Reaper’s passive healing skill will be subject to change. McCree’s “Deadeye” ultimate skill is improved, and the Roadhog’s scrap gun receives decreased damage.
