One of the most popular Twitch streamers and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds influencers, DrDisrespect, received an immediate ban on July 17th when he intentionally killed a teammate. The reason for the kill was not rage-induced, though. DrDisrespect killed his teammate because there was not enough space on a motorbike to carry the entire team.
DrDisrespect currently has more than 650,000 followers on Twitch. At the time of the ban, as many as 22,000 of his followers were online.
Instead of finding another vehicle, DrDisrespect killed his teammate. Intentional killing of a teammate contradicts with the rules Bluehole has established. That is why the publisher has taken quick actions and banned him before he was able to join another match.
True to his style, DrDisrespect threatened Brendan “PLAYERUNKNOWN” Greene with a kick to the chest. Although the threat was intended to be a joke, it was not well-perceived by Greene. In response, he published a story from his college years in a TwitLonger. Essentially, the point of the story was that Greene considered “even the threat of violence” absolutely inappropriate.
According to Twitch viewers and DrDisrespect followers, Greene has taken the matter too personally. Nevertheless, DrDisrespect’s ban is not permanent. It is likely to be lifted in three days time.
However, apart from killing a teammate, DrDisrespect violated yet another strict PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ rule. Rule 3 of the PUBG Terms of Service states “Do not make threats of real-world violence or other intended harm to other players or our employees.” In this regard, DrDisrespect’s ban may be extended.
Currently, those who consider themselves a victim of a team killer, hacker, or a griefer can report the player in the PUBG forums. To take further actions against the offender, Bluehole requests video evidence. However, many players record their footage normally and do not run the Nvidia’s Shadowplay. Bluehole is reportedly trying to remedy the situation by removing the video evidence requirement through the coming Observer Mode.
As for DrDisrespect’s ban, it was considered a bold move. Still, it indicates Bluehole’s commitment to making all players respect the rules, regardless of their in-game skills, influence or popularity. Below, you will find a video of the intentional DrDisrespect’s teamkilling.
