Just A “Little Joke”, Solid Snake Isn’t Coming to Tekken 7

Tons of fans were hyped on the possibility that the well-loved Solid Snake would appear on the smash hit fighting game Tekken 7, however, the hopes and dreams of many attendees at this year’s EVO fighting game tournament were crushed following a tweet by the official EVO Twitter account.

Dashed Hopes

Tons of fans were hyped on the possibility that the well-loved Solid Snake would appear on the smash hit fighting game Tekken 7, however, the hopes and dreams of many attendees at this year’s EVO fighting game tournament were crushed following a tweet by the official EVO Twitter account.

Little Joke

“Just to clear things up, the Snake cameo video that we showed during Tekken finals was our idea of a little joke”, the EVO account wrote. “It was not intended to imply a character reveal, and was done on our own, without consulting Bandai Namco. Sorry for any confusion!”.

They clarified the events that happened, thus squashing rumors that Metal Gear Solid’s Snake is coming to Tekken 7, as fans were led to believe.

All the assumptions and confusion began earlier this Sunday. The event happened shortly before the Tekken 7 Grand Finals. A short video was played and appeared onscreen on the Mandalay Bay stage. The video seemed to play both an image of and the audio from Solid Snake’s codec radio, leading many to conclude that Snake was being teased as a new character for Tekken 7.

Not Funny?

However, it seems that fans were just played by the “little joke” from the EVO team. Though it looks like it was just intended to be a harmless prank, many were still hoping that this teaser will become a reality. Some even taking their disappointment to Tweeter saying the joke was a bit ” thoughtless”.

Other Cameos

With that said, it looks like Solid Snake will just have to be content with his guest role in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The crossover became a reality thank to Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and Sora Ltd. head Masahiro Sakurai being good friends. So, when Hideo Kojima wanted one of his most famous characters, Solid Snake, put into Sakurai’s fighting series, Super Smash Bros., all the two had to do was talk.

“When I was developing Super Smash Bros. Melee for GameCube, Hideo Kojima contacted me and practically begged me to put him in there, but at that time we were deep in dev and it was too late”, he said in an interview.

Though this one is just a joke, nothing is impossible in these video game crossovers, so maybe we can still see Solid Snake in Tekken 7 in the far future (fingers crossed).
