A few days ago, the Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus’ publisher Bethesda released an ad that upset the gaming community. Both gamers and non-gamers accused Bethesda of trying to make an indirect allusion to the tense political situation in the United States, promote violence, and encourage “Nazi killing”. Later on, the Vice President of PR and Marketing, Pete Hines had to clear up the confusion. He stated that Bethesda will not “shy away from what the game is about” even if company’s marketing materials are frowned upon.
It seems his words were the truth itself as Bethesda tweeted yet another video, which confirms that the Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus plot is anything but sugar-coated and Nazis are not welcome in the United States.
The video description reads that “There is only one side”. Then, B.J punches a Nazi officer in the face. The message the ad conveys is that “If you are a Nazi….GTFO.”
The publication was re-tweeted by thousands of users and this time around the community feedback was predominantly positive.
Bethesda’s team is doing a great job with keeping players on their toes prior to the game launch. The release of the New Order sequel coincides with the arrival of the Assassin’s Creed Origins and Super Mario Odyssey. The Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus releases across all platforms on October 27. Its Nintendo Switch version is planned for 2018.
