There is a myth that one needs to spend hundreds of dollars to enjoy a good quality headset. Well, it seems to be just a myth. The good news is there are plenty of reasonably priced options on the market that won’t make your wallet cry. One of those headsets that are worth considering is the EasySMX Cool 2000. Let me tell you why it caught our attention.

Design and Comfort

The headset is made of plastic with a black matte finish. There is a chromium piece with the company logo in the center of each ear cup. Five pipe arms separate the cup wheels into five illuminated sections. The LED lights are powered via USB cable and controlled by a hardware button on the left earpiece. You can choose from 3 available patterns: constant, spinning and breathing.

Do not get too excited, folks, because the lighting is not that fancy-looking 16-million RGB that the premium headsets usually sport. It is mono-colored. The model that I tested came with blue LED lighting, however, EasySMX offers the same product with orange and red lighting.

Apart from the lighting patterns button, the left ear cup also houses the volume dial and the mic switch.

Even though the product may feel a little cheap, its build quality is surprisingly good. Bending the headband doesn’t produce any unpleasant noise. The earcups are breathable, covered with super soft black padding and are quite comfortable to wear. The soft foam-filled flexible headband is elastic enough for smooth and easy adjustments and has the EasySMX logo blended on it.

The microphone is rubber coated, non-removable and comes with a LED lighting on the tip. Personally, I found the LED light at the top of the mic a little distracting, but can always bend it away if it irritates you or you do not use it.

Sound quality

Equipped with 50mm drivers, the EasySMX COOL 2000 produces loud and crisp sound making the device adequate for both gaming and multimedia. They also provide decent bass. As a downside, I noticed that some of the sounds are a bit thin at the higher end of the spectrum. Considering the price of the device, this looks like something most of us could do with.

For Skype, Discord, and in-game communication, this headset does its job well. While not impressive the mic is still clear and loud enough, and the noise canceling works as promised. Speech is easily understood, even when mixed with in-game audio or other types of environmental noise.

Compatibility and Connectivity

The headset comes with a 2-meter-long braided cable and 3 connectors: audio in, audio out, and a USB cable to power up the LED lighting of the earcups and the mic. EasySMX has also included a splitter that combines the Audio in and the Audio Out into one single 3.5mm headphone jack. This tiny bit of added flexibility actually makes the device compatible with all gaming platforms – PC, MAC, NEW Xbox One Slim, PS4, Smartphones, and Nintendo Switch.

Final verdict

I would easily recommend EasySMX COOL 2000 to anyone on a tight budget. Even though I am not a huge fan of LED headsets, I must admit that the headset looks rather cool. Moreover, the headband is really comfortable, and thanks to the well-thought design it easily fits all head sizes with no adjustments required.

If the perfect sound is not of the utmost importance to you, I suggest you go for EasySMX COOL 2000. Indeed, it does not have all the bells and whistles of the high-end gaming headsets, like special software, equalizers, and RGB lighting, but on the other hand, this simplistic approach promises that there isn`t much that can go wrong.
