Logitech G305 Wireless Gaming Mouse Review: Simplicity and Accuracy

When I first saw the G305, I immediately noticed its resemblance to the G PRO Wireless, G203, and the G703 models. This mouse is well built, with smooth edges and robust quality. And while some people in the community don’t find the convex side areas grip-friendly, the mouse is pleasant to the touch and doesn’t collect grime easily.

Great Performance Minus the Add-ons

The Logitech G305 is a standard wireless gaming mouse that is straightforward to use and requires a humble budget,  then this mouse may be just for you.

Ergonomics and Design

When I first saw the G305, I immediately noticed its resemblance to the G PRO Wireless, G203, and the G703 models. This mouse is well built, with smooth edges and robust quality. And while some people in the community don’t find the convex side areas grip-friendly, the mouse is pleasant to the touch and doesn’t collect grime easily.

The surface texture of the G305 is matte with a lightly roughened coating.  Design wise the mouse comes also in black and a white; it looks just as sleek and would fit equally well any gaming set-up.

Features and Performance

Buttons

The Logitech G305 has 6 programmable buttons. The main buttons are crisp and tactile, perfect for spamming. The switches are Omron D2FC-F-7N, tested at 20 million clicks.

The scroll wheel is tactile and glides smoothly. The middle click has a bit more tension than I would prefer. However, that is more a matter of personal preference.

I noticed that the side buttons of the G305 have a bit of pre-travel before actuation. You really need to press them hard enough to click. The CPI changer is crisp and works very well. Its clicker is uniform in design with the main and side buttons.

Sensors

The G305 uses Logitech’s HERO (High-Efficiency Rated Optical) sensor. The CPI can be set between 200 and 12,000, with increments of 50. The accessible polling rates are 125, 250, 50, and 1000 Hz. With state-of-the-art sensors under its hood, the G305 is pretty accurate.

I tested the mouse on some good O’l RTS, Starcraft, fired in some Skyrim, then some Overwatch action. The G305 performed smoothly without any lag.

Connectivity and Battery

The wireless connectivity, that Logitech dubbed LIGHTSPEED Wireless, worked flawlessly. My PUBG game ran smoothly, no delays or jitters observed.

However, unlike Logitech’s high-end models, the G305 is not rechargeable. You will need an AA battery for that purpose. According to Logitech, this rodent is operational for 250 hours on a single charge. This might seem a lot, but if you are a heavy user, you might want to invest in some rechargeable batteries.

Balance and Weight

Gamers are very particular about mouse weight. The last thing that you would want is your movements in Apex Legends getting hampered by a heavy mouse.

The G305 weighs about 3.5 ounces together with the AA battery that comes in the original package. If you like your mouse lighter, alternatively, you can use an AAA lithium battery with an adapter. Though it will not dramatically decrease the weight, you will notice some difference.

Software and Lightning

The Logitech gaming software takes about 327 MB of disk space and consumes 46 MB of memory while running in your background. If you don’t like software clutter, you can delete it once you have finished setting everything up. This mouse has built-in memory that will keep your settings, however, the onboard memory can only store one profile at a time.

Lastly, no RGB or any sort of lighting is available on the G305, which might be a disappointment for some people.

Final Verdict

The G305 is a nicely built mouse, and despite its convex shape, it is comfortable to use. The main buttons are solid and tactile, though they are on the loud side.

Logitech’s Lightspeed wireless technology is good at handling input lag, and in combination with the HERO sensor, this mouse is on par with Logitech’s higer-end models. Overall, the G305 is a solid and reliable mouse, but not something you would call a perfect mouse.
