Superb Sensor and Top Ergonomics. High Price Too.
The e-sports gaming market is a very competitive one and each of us want to get the best mouse within certain budget limits. No matter if you are an e-sports pro, a stay-at-home gamer, or you nurture your gaming passion in the evenings after work, you must be looking for a mouse that suits your playing technique and the specifications of the genre you prefer.

Ergonomics
As I keep a close eye on each and every piece of gaming hardware manufacturers roll out, I could not help noticing that before the release of G900, Logitech seemed reluctant to follow the trend and release mice with big, bold design.
At a first glance, the G900 looks big and pointy, but in fact, it is super lightweight. What’s more, Logitech has hollowed out the scroll wheel, the innards were replaced with a “spoked” design and the total weight of 107 grams was achieved.
The G900 is an ambidextrous mouse. It feels fine in either hand and comes with detachable side buttons. To be honest, the first thing that crossed my mind was that the design’s concept was an idea of someone who has never spent 12 hours playing an online game. Nevertheless, the curved, hard edges awoke my curiosity. Despite being aware of the saying “Curiosity killed the cat” I still wanted to test the G900. What I found out was that it does provide comfort to palm and claw- grippers, although I believe it is more suitable for claw gripping style. After using it for a couple of hours, I realized why so many gamers say the G900 is the cherry on top of Logitech’s mouse lineup.
Size
I can’t think of a wireless gaming mouse that would beat the G900 in terms of weight. In other words, the Chaos Spectrum is extremely lightweight (107g). Such a weight can hardly be achieved unless some design sacrifices are made. The solid scroll wheel is substituted by a lighter metal version. If you are among those who prefer heavier mice, you may turn your attention to the Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum that has an adjustable weight system.
Layout
Do you know what I have always found weird about gaming mice design? The tendency for overdesigning. I mean, every manufacturer wants to release a super customizable mouse, suitable for as many genres as possible. However, in most cases, that desire transforms the mice into ridiculously looking pieces of hardware. The strain you feel after the first few hours of using your new rodent makes you regret the purchase.
Luckily, the Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum does not match the above description. It has a simplistic design and the only hallmark of overdesign is the gulf between the front and rear of the mouse. As for the buttons, they are well spaced out and easy to reach. You have two thumb buttons, left and right mouse buttons, two DPI buttons, a wheel adjustment switch, a scroll wheel as well as another switch on the bottom for changing profiles.
The two buttons on the left side are perfectly positioned under the thumb. If you are a leftie, just move the buttons on the other side of the mouse. If you need more macros, you can attach all four buttons to the both sides of the mouse. Company’s quality assurance department claims the mouse switches can endure up to 20 million presses.
If you are a FPS fan, you will consider the available buttons more than enough. However, if you are a MMO freak, or you prefer to map 20 different keys to your mouse, the G700s may be a more practical option.
Responsiveness and Sensor
There is no need in explaining how poor latency can affect your gaming performance. Namely, latency is one of the main features that determine whether a mouse is well-worth the purchase. If you are an e-sports pro or you aim at becoming such, you can count on G900 to aid your brilliant performance.
The G900 features a 1ms report rate in wired and wireless mode. Logitech did a good job with optimizing the 2.4GHz wireless connection, too. The mouse also copes with twitch gameplay and boasts about an incredible tracking accuracy regardless of the surface. In my tests, it performed well on wooden and plastic surfaces. I did not notice a single cursor jump.
The mouse can track at 40G acceleration and a speed of up to 300 inches per second. That speed is mainly attributed to the 2.4GHz wireless connection and the premium-class optical sensor. Speaking of the sensor, it offers a DPI that goes all the way up to 12,000. Unless you have a high-resolution monitor, you are not likely to need more than 3000 DPI. For my tests, I increased the DPI to 8000 and I could not detect any jitter or acceleration issues. If you are a diehard fan of first person shooters, the G900’s accurate tracking makes it an option to consider.
Wired or Wireless?
The G900 works well in both wired and wireless mode. There is no point in babbling about the wired mode, though. Every gamer knows that high-end corded gaming rodents perform flawlessly. That’s why I will focus on the wireless mode instead.
The mouse is said to withstand up to 32 hours of intense playing, but if you have the mouse lit up, the battery drains for about 24 hours. It takes approximately 2 hours to have the battery fully charged, which is pretty quick, but most G900 owners tend to keep the mouse plugged in overnight. Keep in mind that the mouse does not ship with a dock.
Software
The mouse is configurable via the Logitech software. You can adjust the sensitivity, polling rate, lighting, etc. The mouse has an onboard memory, which means you can use it on different computers. There is no need to adjust the settings every time you are going to a friends’ house.
There is yet another fancy feature I want to share with you. When you input the type of surface on which you will be using the mouse, the software will adjust the settings accordingly. Although some gamers I talked to were not overjoyed at that feature, I believe that every small customization detail takes you one step closer to becoming a pro.
The other customization options you have access to include setting up macros and reassigning buttons. What’s more, you can also assign profiles for preferred games. When you load up the game, the G900 will trigger the right settings for you.

Using the Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum for playing shooters is a sheer pleasure. If you want to take your performance to a whole new level, the G900 is worth every penny. The lag-free performance, the ridiculously accurate sensor and the long-lasting battery, are the three components that make it a stunning piece of engineering. It does not look like gamers will stop talking about its capabilities for the next few years. Or, until Logitech releases a new gaming peripheral that outshines the G900.
