Razer Mamba HyperFlux Gaming Mouse Review

The perfect gaming mouse has arrived. If you are looking for a new superlight wireless rodent to ramp up your game-play, then the Razer Mamba HyperFlux mouse may be the right one for you. Fast and precise, the mouse conforms to the natural shape of your hand and the illumination will fit right in with the rest of your gaming tech.

The perfect gaming mouse has arrived. Staying true to their promise to gamers – Razer are aiming straight at adding yet another flawless jewel in your peripherals collection, called the Mamba HyperFlux. Fast and precise, conforming to the natural shape of your hand, this new superlight wireless rodent is born to ramp up your game-play, while its beautiful illumination will fit in right with the rest of your gaming tech.

Originally shown off at the CES 2018 innovations conference, the HyperFlux is actually a package consisting of what is one of the hottest new trends on the peripherals stage – a wirelessly charged mouse powered by the magnetic field created by its corresponding pad, called the Firefly.

While not the first to present such tech, the guys at Razer have added a piece of engineering uniqueness to their model by completely ditching the battery, and have instead added something called a super capacitor – an electrical component that stores and transfers electricity, thus ending up with the most lightweight wireless gaming mouse available on the market.

This doesn’t mean, that if you lift the Hyperflux Mamba off the pad it will die instantly, as it can hold the charge for some good 5 to 10 seconds. However, if you decide to leave the pad behind, you can only use the mouse in wired mode.

Razer Mamba HyperFlux Design

Even though it lacks the RGB strips on the sides (the main reason behind is the ability of the super capacitor to hold its electrical charge, while the mouse is lifted off the pad, for as long as possible) and the tension control of the button clicks, the Mamba Hyperflux shares most of its design with Razer’s top of the line model the Mamba.

This right-handed mouse has ergonomic rubber side grips, set out in a finned horizontal fashion, which feels great and ensures you have a secure grip for frenzied gaming action. The tall frame and sloped back side propose an exceptional comfort for either palm or claw grip.

Razer’s Hyperesponse technology ensures that your button presses execute your commands instantly. The tactile scroll wheel is made to pro-gaming standards and has a nice texture. There are nine programmable Hyperesponse buttons. You can use the Razer Synapse 3 software to set their functions to your liking.

As we mentioned, there is no battery in the mouse and it can run indefinitely on the magnetic field created by the mat. You will finally be able to forget the frustration of either swapping out the battery right in the heat of your CS: GO battle or plugging your wireless mouse in to recharge it.

Another advantage of getting rid of the battery is a noticeable weight reduction, compared to the regular Mamba models that weigh around 125-133g / 0.27lbs – 0.29lbs. At 96g (0.211lbs), the HyperFlux is undoubtedly the lightest wireless mouse out there. For comparison with other vendors’ mice, the Logitech G903 mouse weighs 110g (0.24lbs), while the Corsair Dark Core RGB SE mouse weighs 128g (0.28lbs).

Razer Mamba HyperFlux vs Logitech G903 vs Corsair Dark Core RGB SE

As of September 2018, there are two other mouse models which have wireless charging capability:

  • Logitech G903 (G703) – Features include 1ms wireless responsiveness, 11 buttons and a battery that offers up to 32 hours of play, 110g / 0.24lbs weight. You can use it without a mat or cable, however you will need to also buy a charging mat (Logitech G Powerplay) if you never want to charge your mouse again.
  • Corsair Dark Core RGB SE is another alternative to Mamba HyperFlux, including 1ms lag-free wireless responsiveness. The battery lasts up to 24 hours of play, 128g / 0.28lbs. To use its wireless recharging capability, you need to separately purchase the CORSAIR MM1000 Qi pad to be able to charge it wirelessly during game-play or work.

Wireless Performance and Sensor

If you have wireless performance concerns, then you can now put these to rest. Razer’s own Adaptive Frequency Technology and the Ultra-polling rate of 1,000 Hz ensure stability of the wireless signal. In millisecond intervals, the frequency channel is scanned for interferences, and in case any is detected, the receiver is instantly switched to another channel. With this said, you will enjoy absolutely lag-free, fast, and precise movements.

This mouse makes use of the Razer 5G (PMW3366) Optical Sensor, providing outstanding sensitivity of a true 16,000 DPI resolution. During our tests we never witnessed any lag, neither we saw the cursor going out of control due to some malfunction in the wireless signal whatsoever.

Customization and RGB lighting

Razer Chroma and Razer Synapse technologies offer true personalization with an array of 16.8 million colors. The branded logo on the mouse and lighting stripes on either side of the scroll wheel can be customized right to your choice. There is also an LED indicator on the front side of the mouse that shows whether the mouse is connected to the mat and being powered on.

Razer HyperFlux Firefly Mouse Mat

The Razer HyperFlux Firefly mat is a dual surface mat that can be flipped over for different styles of game-play. If you are used to short and rapid mouse movements at high DPI settings, and less friction, we’d recommend using the hard surface. The cloth surface, on the other side, is more suitable for a lower-DPI game-play preference and even more precise movements.

The mat surfaces have special coating to ensure that mouse tracking is responsive and accurate. There is enough area for the mouse to move over. The pad dimensions are 355mm (13.9in) x 282.5mm (11.1in). The edges of the mat are rubber dotted which secures a non-slip grip of your desk surface ensuring a smooth game-play.

The HyperFlux Firefly pad can be set to stand out or blend in with the rest of your gaming peripherals. It has a lighted rim that runs along the pad’s edge and can create a subtle ambient, or you can ramp up the brightness during daylight gaming sessions for extra effect. There are several pre-built standard lighting patterns, such as spectrum cycling and breathing, to name a few.

The mouse mat connects to your PC or laptop with a 2.1m / 6.9ft cable. However, if you want to slip the mouse in your pocket and take it for a gaming session elsewhere, you can. You can leave the mat at home and grab the cable, which plugs directly to the mouse.

Our Verdict

This new HyperFlux combo is Razer’s solid answer to a new wave of wirelessly working and charging peripherals and it handles what it’s designed to do without any doubt. The mouse itself is perfect for MOBA, RTS, and especially for first-person/third-person shooter games. While the Mamba HyperFlux price tag is higher than other wireless mice, you get what you pay for – Razer quality, lag free wireless connectivity, and the most lightweight killer beast.

The best alternative to the HyperFlux Mamba is the Logitech G903. You will need to buy the mouse and the charging pad separately, and the total cost will come close to the price of the Razer. If you’re a Razer fan and want the lightest, and most innovative mouse the company’s has made lately, the Mamba Hyperflux should be your mouse of choice. However, if you want wireless freedom away from the pad, the Logitech offering is a better fit you.
