Redragon M901 Perdition MMO Gaming Mouse Review

The Redragon M901 Perdition is a notable exception to the rule that “Cheap always comes out expensive.” Check out what makes it suitable for novice and veteran MMO warriors.

The Redragon M901 is a sleek looking gaming mouse available in black and red / white and red. The intimidating number of buttons adds to the “gaming appearance” of the mouse.

Redragon got me at the materials it has chosen for the M901 body. It is true that the mouse is made of plastic, but before you condemn it as yet another toy-like product, I want to clarify that the plastic is molded and provides the perfect grip.

The matte surface helps you prevent the unsightly fingerprints. Even if your hands get sweaty, I guarantee that you will not have to clean your mouse after every 12-hour gaming session. Well, some cleaning from time to time would not hurt, but my point is that there is no need to keep a rag and a bottle of cleaning detergent on your desk.

I am telling you folks, once you play WoW with the M901, the only thing you will regret is not having purchased it earlier. It is undoubtedly the best alternative to all those fancy MMO mice you have to spend your weekly paycheck on.

M901 Button Layout

The M901 Perdition comes with a total of 18 (!) buttons, 12 of which are organized on the side of the mouse. The other 6 are appropriately located across the mouse body. Frankly, I cannot think of a more convenient button placement a MMO player may want. The buttons themselves are pretty well-spaced and have a satisfying level of feedback when pressed. Due to the sheer number of programmable buttons, this model made it to our best mouse for mmo list.

The mouse is obviously geared towards hotkey-heavy games such as WoW and many gamers claim the M901 is the budget alternative of the Razer Naga Epic Chroma. Having said that, I am more likely to believe that the Perdition bears similarities to the Logitech G600. In any case, the M901 is perfect for games where each of your character spells and abilities can be mapped to a hotkey.

M901 MMO Gaming Mouse Sensor

The M901 has an Avago laser sensor, which will come as kind of a disappointment to those who have a soft spot for optical mice. However, during my tests, I have not encountered any of the issues laser sensors are notorious for. The mouse offers the stunning 16,400 DPI, 1000Hz polling rate and comes with 30G acceleration. You can switch between five DPI presets on-the-fly.

The bottom of the mouse is equipped with durable Teflon pads, which ensures smooth tracking on most surfaces, not to mention it prevents the wear and tear that inevitably occurs after years of usage.

M901 Weight Tuning Set

Unless you are a FPS gamer, you must prefer sturdier, heavier mice. In this respect, the M901 does not disappoint. The mouse weighs 5.3 oz (150g) out of the box, but you will be delighted to know that it arrives with an 8-part weight tuning set. Each piece weighs 0.08 oz (2.4 grams) which means the optimal weight you can get is 169.2g. Of course, it is not necessary to install all 8 pieces at once. Instead, you can experiment until you find the optimal weight that will help you take your gameplay to a whole new level.

Redragon M901 Software

Redragon enables users to customize their rodents via software. The latter has undergone some improvements, although I believe it needs some more work. Although it is not as intuitive as the software of some other vendors, it is still easy to navigate. The M901 Perdition software is available for download on the official site of the manufacturer.

The mouse comes with 5 onboard profiles and you can save different settings for each of them. The button, located at the base of the mouse, allows profile switching on-the-fly.

Wrap Up

Overall, the Redragon Perdition M901 is a breath of fresh air for all those MMO fans who want a decent quality mouse without breaking the bank. My only complaint is the acceleration feature. Other than that, the mouse is packed with all functionalities you usually cannot find in this price range.

So, if you are looking for the best budget mouse for World of Warcraft, your rodent is at its last gasp, or you just need a few more buttons for your spells, the M901 is a safe bet.
