Sennheiser PC 373D Review: Engaging Gaming Experience

Most gaming headsets are manufactured by companies who are already a mainstay in the video game gear industry. The Sennheiser PC 373D is an addition to Sennheiser’s growing gaming collection. Well worthy of a good test. It promises 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound. That means amazing gaming immersion. I say I’m in!

Surround Sound, Lightweight Design

Most gaming headsets are manufactured by companies that are already a mainstay in the video game gear industry. Sennheiser is not a newcomer in premium audio for high-end customers and now they decided to expand their market to gamers too.

The Sennheiser PC 373D is an addition to Sennheiser’s growing gaming collection, well worthy of a good test. It promises 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound, and that means amazing gaming immersion. I say I’m in!

Build And Design

The PC 373Ds are entirely matte black with red highlights on the microphone and earpieces. The design is sticking with a simple yet elegant look. There is no unconventional wiring, no bright colors, and no over-the-top branding. With the available palette selection, this set is definitely unassuming enough to blend into your station without nicely and discreetly.

The overall design and feel of the PC 373D closely resembles that of the Sennheiser Game One. It doesn’t stand out that much, but the personality is there.

The premium feel ensures comfort during use. Even extra-long sessions are a breeze. This headset is also remarkably light at 12.5-ounces. The use of plastic is what cuts the weight, and it seems sturdily made, despite the material used.

Headband

The headband is well made and feels high-end. It is wrapped in velvet padding, making it soft and comfy. You can adjust the fit by 2 inches swiveling it up and down. Like the rest of the PC 373D, it is also plastic but it is flexible enough to withstand some abuse.

Ear Cups And Controls

Simplicity is the ongoing theme with the PC 373D. Aside from the horizontal accents on the ear cups, the only added feature is a small volume knob on the right cup and a boom mic on the left cup.

If you want more control you must resort to software options. Most audio adjustments are implemented through the software. Muting the mic is easy, just swivel the boom to an upright position and you are good to go.

The PC 373D’s XXL ear cup pads are sufficiently roomy around the ears. I felt cozy and cool even after my League of Legends grind.

Sound Quality

When looking for a gaming headset there are tons to consider, but sound quality comes first. The PC 373D offers an excellent 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound. They are simply amazing. The overall experience playing games intensified significantly due to the epic sound.

I love RPG and Survival Horror games. When I plugged in this headset, the detail in audio representation left me with a big grin on my face. Dead Space 3 was even creepier, and Necromorphs sounded 100% scarier. The powerful thump by the tight bass will be well appreciated by fellow gamers.

To achieve full immersion, I tried the game preset. It offered a nice amount of bass while keeping treble at a balanced level. When stalking my enemies in Dishonored, the surround sound feature was super handy. I was able to hear them and pinpoint their position. Taking them down in stealth was so much easier.

If you tried it at higher volumes, you’d find out it bleeds a bit. I wouldn’t advise using it if you have someone sleeping next to you.

Microphone

The PC 373D microphone sounds okay. I still wouldn’t compromise and recommend it to anyone looking for streaming microphone quality. I noticed that the audio is more compact and cramped than I would like. The mic is also very close to my mouth. It could be bent away but I still noted some breathy plosives. It does have a noise cancellation feature, I believe that it is not its best feature.

Connectivity

The Sennheiser PC 373D is designed originally for PC. I tried it through my PS4’s USB port and it worked just fine. Unfortunately, you won’t get to enjoy all its features in PS4, as the Equalizer and the Surround Sound are not available. You will still be able to appreciate the real value of the 40mm drivers, though.

The cable is 9.5 feet in length, which will allow you to sit comfortably on your PC, or chill on the couch with a PS4 controller in hand. The cable’s dongle also offers a button for activating the Dolby Surround Sound.

Software

The 373D’s has software that offers some helpful features without being excessive. There are three sound presets – Music, E-sport and Game. You can also turn off the Equalizer if you want.

The Music preset gives a huge boost to bass, like Game One,  just with weaker power. The E-sport mode will be your favorite if you are into FPS games. It provides an audio performance that highlights footsteps and gunshots, perfect for competitive players. Aside from the presets the software also lets you activate the microphone’s noise cancellation.

Final Verdict

Overall the Sennheiser PC 373D is an excellent and suitable PC gaming headset for players who seek absolute immersion. The 701 Dolby Surround Sound is oh so worth it, not to mention the convenient sound presets.

The premium feel is also impressive, save the plasticky build that some users will not go along with. Should your foremost preference be the audio quality, then the Sennheiser PC 373D will not let you down.
