Design and comfort

The design is eye-catching, and the headset looks stylish although it’s all plastic. Its construction makes it lightweight (it’s only 10.5 oz. / 300g) – something you would appreciate during long gaming sessions. The build quality is not bad, despite the plastic body, and many users report it is quite durable. No matter the size of your head, the padded headband expands enough to fit seamlessly. Also, I wear glasses, and it’s still very comfortable. Game One’s ear cups are big enough to accommodate those of us with larger ears. They also rotate in all directions to fit the shape of your head.

The plush ear pads are incredibly comfy, much cozier than the usual leather ones. Their velvet ear padding and the open-back are designed to keep your head cool — no more sweaty ears. I spend long hours playing games and trust me – this is one of the most significant disadvantages of many premium leather ear cups. Overall Game feels light, soft, and cool.

Sound quality

Simply put, it sounds great! I enjoyed a top-notch audio quality with rich and crystal clear sound. Lows and mids are balanced, and the overall frequency response is superb, except that it lacks a bit in the bass. Such a shortcoming may turn off the most electronic or rock hardcore audiophiles, but for a mere mortal like me, the surround sound comes rich and immersive. Considering Sennheiser G4me One’s capability to produce such a refined and fulfilling sound, a small additional investment in a sound enhancing device like a DAC/amp/sound card is completely justified to enjoy it at its best.

What’s vital for us, gamers, is the positional audio and with Sennheiser Game One it’s way better than my old Logitech G231 headset. What you get is an extremely accurate and natural sound experience. Unlike most stereo headsets, it gives a lot of detail, and now you know which direction enemies are coming from. If you play FPS games like CS: GO or COD, this headset will not betray you. You will detect footsteps coming from behind, and any other surround sounds you need to hear to boost your competitive edge.

Here come the pros and cons of the open back feature of this headset. It will keep you cool, but the noise isolation isn’t perfect. You can still hear the environment – family talking, street noises, etc. For some people, it’s a plus (you are aware of what’s around you, and you can control your own speaking volume while playing). Others find it distracting. Anyway, if that really bothers you, you should consider a closed model instead.

The noise-canceling microphone is also fantastic. People I chat with say that my voice is clear and loud and they can hardly hear the background noise, if at all.

Controls and functionality

I found the microphone volume control well-designed. You can mute/unmute it by simply rotating it up and down, and there is a distinct click when you do that (the only problem here it can be noticed by people you are chatting with, on Discord for example).
The volume wheel on the right ear cup is genius but it doesn’t go to 0, and you can’t completely turn off the audio, which is a bit annoying.

Connectivity

This wired headset is multi-platform compatible. You get it with two exchangeable braided audio cables, and you can connect it to a PC, a console, or any device that features a 3.5mm jack input. You will still need an adaptor to combine the split audio/mic into a 3.5mm jack though. Plug-and-play, there is nothing complicated.

Game Zero vs Game One: Which One is Better?

Final verdict

Folks, I can firmly say Game One is one of the good gaming sets in its price range on the market, with a lot more pros than cons. The price for what you get is decent:

• Top build quality – light and sturdy at the same time
• Extremely comfortable – you can play for hours barely feeling them on, with your head cool
• Ergonomic design – on-ear cup volume adjustment, muting the mic by just flipping it up
• Sound reproduction – loud and clear, good for listening to music and perfect for gaming (as long as you don’t mind the lack of tons of bass, and the poor noise isolation due to the open back feature of the headset doesn’t bother you)

Is it worth every penny? Definitely.
