A few days earlier, the Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED announced that the much-anticipated RPG would have a set of features boosting its chances to become a successful title. Soon after that announcement, fans presumed that Cyberpunk 2077 would be yet another title that includes loot boxes and microtransactions.
Luckily, CD Projekt RED has hurried up to allay players’ fears and took the matter to Twitter. The developer reassured players that the game would not come with “a hidden catch” and the developer would “leave greed to others”. CD Projekt also hinted that the Cyberpunk 2077 will resemble The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and it will be a “huge single player, open world, story-driven RPG.”
Although the developer does not explicitly state that the Cyberpunk 2077 fans will be spared the microtransactions burden, this seems the most obvious conclusion players can draw out of the Tweet.
Back in the time when The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released, the company launched several DLC packs. It will come as no surprise if it follows the same course of action with Cyberpunk 2077. If that’s the case, the game will receive extra downloadable content after launch and the content will most probably not be locked behind microtransactions.
The microtransactions and loot boxes have led to a massive outcry among the gaming community. As RealGear reported players’ resentment towards the “pay to win” method keeps growing. The Cyberpunk 2077 developer might decide not to adopt the microtransactions business model and let players enjoy the gameplay just like in the good old days.
CD Projekt RED is yet to specify a Cyberpunk 2077 release date, but according to the latest information, its launch is expected late 2018 or early 2019.
