The next Battlefield title is under development and it will be released in 2018. That is what Electronic Arts’ CEO Andrew Wilson and CFO Blake Jorgensen announced during the financial conference call for Q1 2018. They discussed publisher’s plans for future titles as well as the titles that are currently in the works.
According to the released information, the next Battlefield will use Frostbite. EA representatives expressed their hopes that the future title will be more personalized and immersive than the current one. Although EA has slightly lifted the curtain on the Battlefield sequel, there was no telling which are the other games where the Frostbite game engine will be used.
The publisher representatives remained tight-lipped what could be the changes and improvements players can expect in the next Battlefield, though. Rumor has it that the next title will take the fight to Vietnam and will provide players with stunning visual effects.
Battlefield 1 was launched in 2016, and currently, it is a contender for the “Most played shooter” title. It was recently announced that up until now, the game has been bought and played by 21 million players worldwide.
The Star Wars Battlefront was the most successful EA title released in 2015. People with knowledge of the matter suggest that the publisher is releasing the Battlefront 2 with the aim of making up for the lost revenue. The Battlefront 2 is releasing across all platforms on November 17.
As for the Battlefield 1, it is going to receive a few more expansions and it is understandable that EA is reluctant to reveal details about the sequel as it fears moving the focus point from Battlefield 1 to Battlefield 2.
Apart from the big announcement about next year’s sequel, Wilson also shared that the EA developers were currently working on a Battlefield 1’s Game of the Year Edition and an Esports Mode. Both of them are expected to hit the shelves sometime this year.
