Vagabond Productions Corp., a subsidiary of Atari, has announced that it inked a partnership with Fig. The latter is a crowdfunding platform for video games that launched campaigns for a number of successful titles – Wasteland 3, Phoenix Point, Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, to name a few.
The two companies are planning on releasing an IP from Atari’s popular titles, and make an all-new IP as well. At the time of writing, information about the two new titles remains scarce.
Nevertheless, the CEO of Atari, Fred Chesnais, released a statement, confirming the partnership with Fig. He expressed his gratitude to Fig for “changing the narrative and allowing us [Atari- Ed] to partner with our fans.”
Justin Bailey, Fig’s CEO also commented on the matter. He said that Atari has been long associated with video games production and the “partnership provides the rare opportunity to engage with an industry legend in Atari to help publish two IPs, and share in the potential financial success of those games.”
Fig is a crowdfunding organization established in 2015. What makes it different from the rest is the fact that backers receive a share of the profit on grounds that the crowdfunding goal is successful.
As for Atari, it is a pioneer in the video games industry that has been around since 1972 when the first Atari console was released. In the early 90s, the company introduced its last console – the Atari Jaguar. Since then, the company has somehow vanished from the spotlight to make a major return with the introduction of the much-anticipated Ataribox. In addition, the company has also declared its ambitions to conquer the wearable tech market.
The collaboration with Fig is yet another effort the company makes toward regaining its positions and providing players with high-quality video game entertainment.
Expectedly, the announcement about the new titles was well-accepted by fans but amidst the excitement, two question emerged – when the Ataribox release will be announced and whether the two new games are related to the upcoming console?
