Does an MMO Mouse Make a Difference When Playing Games?

Yes. MMO mice are all about versatility and customizability. Unlike regular gaming mice, which generally offer anywhere between two to five side buttons, MMO mice offer many more. For example, the Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite offers up to 12!

You can also assign keybindings and macros to these buttons to execute quick game moves and combos. That makes MMO mice an ideal choice for competitive MMORPGs and MMOFPS games.

Best MMO Mice for 2023: A Bona Fide Roundup

There’s no shortage of MMO mice in the market. So, to narrow down the list of potential candidates, we asked the hardcore WoW and FFXIV buffs in our team and our social circle for their opinions on the best MMO mice available.

And as always, we also asked numerous gaming communities on Reddit, notably r/MMORPG, r/WoW, r/FFXIV, r/MouseReview, r/BuildaPC, and r/PCMasterRace (to name a few), for their opinion and input on MMO mice.

After weeks of research, we narrowed our list down to 18 MMO mice. Then, in order to assess the mice’s technical aptitude, we put them through a series of tests and shortlisted the ten best MMO mice.

In testing, we carefully monitored their tracking speed, angle snapping, macros, DPI accuracy, wireless connectivity, polling rate, lift-off distance, input latency, overall programmability, and performance in several popular MMO titles, including FFXIV and WoW.

With that established, let’s get straight to the reviews.

Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite – Best MMO Mouse Overall

Corsair MMO mouse, the Scimitar RGB Elite, is our top pick for best MMO gaming mice, and for very good reasons!

Scimitar is a relatively mid-sized mouse with a dimension of 4.7 x 3.03 x 1.67 inches. That makes the mouse quite accessible to most people. The weight is also quite manageable at just 122 grams, although it’s not the lightest mouse in this test.

At the heart of the Scimitar RGB Elite is the PMW3391 optical gaming sensor from Pixart. The sensor supports a staggering 18,000 DPI with a tracking speed of 250 IPS. The polling rate is 1,000Hz with a latency of 1 ms. Lastly, the mouse has 50g acceleration with a 1.2mm lift-off distance.

In terms of features, the Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite absolutely shines. At the side of the mouse are 12 programmable buttons, perfect for executing spells and combos. At the top, the mouse has the usual left/right buttons, a scroll wheel, and two DPI and profile toggle buttons.

As the name implies, Scimitar RGB Elite has an RGB light under the scroll wheel and the Corsair logo at the back of the mouse. And lastly, the 12-button side panel also has an RGB backlight, which indicates the mouse’s DPI level as well.

As with Corsair products in general, the Scimitar RGB Elite is well-built and extremely durable. The build quality is solid, with no squeaks or creaks. All buttons have a very nice, tactile feel to them with a lifespan of 50 million clicks. The USB cable is also braided with a 1.8-meter length.

For customizability, you’ll have to download Corsair’s iCUE software. From the software, you can set different mouse profiles, choose an RGB color scheme, and assign keybindings and macros to the 12 side buttons.

Our MMO experts were extremely pleased by the mouse’s gaming capabilities. It’s a joy to use, not only in MMOs but also in day-to-day usage. The iCUE software is also very simple and straightforward to use. Overall, this is the best MMO mouse you can buy right now!

Redragon M908 Impact – Best Budget MMO Mouse

MMO players on a very tight budget would be hard-pressed to find a better bang for the buck than Redragon’s M908 Impact MMO gaming mouse!

The M908 Impact is pretty large at 4.81 x 3.62 x 1.65 inches. While not nearly as big as the largest mouse in this test (that’d be Asus ROG Spatha X), it’s still quite a handful, and we can’t recommend it to people with small hands. But surprisingly enough, it’s the second lightest mouse in this test at 115 grams, only behind SteelSeries Aerox 9!

Powering the device is the Pixart PMW3327 sensor, which is on the budget end of the spectrum. This mouse isn’t going to blow your socks off with its 6,200 DPI, 30g acceleration, and 220 IPS tracking speed. But it does offer a decent 1,000Hz polling rate with 1ms latency.

Despite its budget-friendly price tag, the M908 Impact doesn’t compromise on features. On the left side of the mouse are 12 programmable buttons. Aside from left/right buttons and a scroll wheel at the top, there’s a dedicated fire button and two DPI toggle buttons.

Surprisingly, the M908 Impact doesn’t compromise on RGB, either! The Redragon logo at the rear has RGB light, as well as the scroll wheel and the 12 side buttons. To sweeten the deal, the mouse also comes with adjustable weights (8 x 2.4 grams), and you can bring its weight up to 134 grams.

Unfortunately, the build quality isn’t the strongest suit of the M908. It feels a little plasticky. The left/right buttons also have a slight squeak which we didn’t like. The side buttons aren’t textured either, so it may be a bit difficult for new players to find them by feel.

In our testing, the PMW3327 sensor performed quite decently, although it was no match for Logitech’s Hero 25K or even the older Hero 16K optical sensors. But for the price, we can’t complain too much about the Redragon M908’s shortcomings.

It does hit well above its weight, all things considered. And overall, we found the M908 Impact quite impactful (pun intended)!

9.4

SteelSeries Rival Aerox 9 (Wireless) – Best MMO Mouse for Small hands

Rival Aerox 9 (Wireless) is a compact Steelseries MMO mouse that doesn’t compromise on quality or features, despite its small size.

The Aerox 9 is positively tiny at 5.07 x 2.68 x 1.65 inches. The weight is equally as light at just 89 grams. SteelSeries claims they achieved such a low weight by using a honeycomb design that greatly reduces the overall weight without compromising stiffness and rigidity.

The mouse is powered by a Pixart optical sensor that offers 18,000 DPI with 400 IPS tracking speed, 40g acceleration, and a polling rate of 1,000Hz at 1 ms latency.

Regarding connectivity, the mouse uses a 2.4G radio with a dedicated USB dongle. There’s also the option to connect the mouse via Bluetooth. The mouse has an internal rechargeable battery which can be charged up via the available USB-C port located at the front of the mouse.

Eighteen programmable buttons boast the input capability of the mouse. There are 12 customizable buttons on the side. At the top are the usual left/right buttons, along with a tilt scroll wheel and a DPI switch.

In testing, we were pleasantly surprised by this little mouse’s MMO potential. Despite its feathery weight and small dimensions, it’d no trouble keeping up with the larger, meaner mice in this test!

Overall, the SteelSeries Rival Aerox 9 is simply a no-brainer for MMO players with small hands.

9.4
SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless

Asus ROG Spatha X – Best MMO Mouse for Big Hands

Now it’s time to finally address the elephant in the room: The Asus ROG Spatha X!

At 5.39 x 3.5 x 1.77 inches, the Spatha X is a very large mouse— even larger than the Redragon M908, which says a lot. It’s also the heaviest mouse in this test at 168 grams. To put things into perspective, it’s just 4 grams lighter than the iPhone 14!

Powering this tank of a mouse is the PMW3370 optical sensor from Pixart. The sensor in question is good for 19,000 DPI with 50g acceleration, 400 IPS tracking, and a polling rate of up to 1,000Hz with a lift-off distance of 1.2mm.

In terms of input, the Asus ROG Spatha X has six angular programmable side buttons. At the top are two fire keys, the usual left/right clicks, a scroll wheel, and a DPI toggle switch. There are 12 buttons in total, each with an advertised lifespan of 70M clicks.

For connectivity, the mouse comes with a 2.4G wireless USB dongle. However, there’s also the option to use the mouse with either a USB cable or via Bluetooth.

Our large hand testers were absolutely blown away by this mouse’s spacious ergonomics and overall comfort. But as expected, our smaller hand testers didn’t particularly like Spatha X’s overall feel. We can only recommend this mouse to people with large hands.

  • Wireless Operating Frequency: 2.40 GHz

Mad Catz B.A.T. 6+ – Best MMO Mouse for Ambidextrous People

Mad Catz B.A.T. 6+ is our top pick for left-handers looking for an ambidextrous MMO mouse.

The Mad Catz B.A.T. 6+ is a compact mouse at 4.92 x 2.6 x 1.65 inches. Unsurprisingly, it’s also the second lightest mouse in this test at just 115g, only behind the featherweight SteelSeries Rival Aerox 9.

Specs-wise, the mouse has a Pixart PMW3389 optical sensor. The sensor is good for 16,000 DPI with 50g acceleration, 400 IPS tracking, and a 2mm lift-off distance (pretty standard). However, the polling rate is very high at 2,000Hz with a latency of just 0.5ms (quite impressive).

For input, the mouse has ten buttons in total, each good for up to 60 million clicks. Being an ambidextrous mouse, the mouse has four side buttons, two on each side of the mouse. For connectivity, the mouse comes with a 1.8-meter braided cable.

The Mad Catz B.A.T. 6+ also has a modular design, which is pretty interesting and unique. The packaging includes interchangeable palm rests and side grips. So, you can really fine-tune the mouse’s ergonomics to your liking.

In testing, the Mad Catz B.A.T. 6+ showed outstanding performance. However, some testers noted the lack of additional programmable buttons, found on other MMO mice. But overall, this is, without a doubt, the best option for people looking for an ambidextrous MMO mouse.

9.4
Mad Catz B.A.T. 6+
  • True ambidextrous design accommodates every gamer and playing style; side vented design encourages airflow
  • Patented DAKOTA Switch - accelerates the response time to only two milliseconds, 60% faster than mechanical switches; 60-million click lifetime for long-lasting gameplay. PMW3389 optical sensor.
  • Mad Catz Cyborg Engine software lets you customize your settings - set hot keys and macros, create loadout profiles and more; store your favorite 5 user profiles on mouse using on-board memory (sofware compatible with Windows only, available for download)

Logitech G600 MMO – Best MMO Mouse for WoW

Wait, does Logitech have an MMO mouse?

Absolutely! The answer is the Logitech G600 MMO Gaming Mouse, which is our top pick for WoW players, in particular, looking for a good MMO mouse.

The Logitech G600 is an average-sized mouse with a dimension of 4.65 x 2.95 x 1.61 inches and a weight of 133 grams. As a result, this is perfectly well suited to most people. However, we wouldn’t recommend it to people with big or small hands.

At the heart of the Logitech G600 is the Avago S9808 optical sensor. The S9808 has a max DPI of 8,200 with 160 IPS tracking, 30g acceleration, and a polling rate of 1,000Hz with 1 ms latency.

As is the case with most MMO mice, the Logitech G600 has 12 side buttons in total, all of them customizable via the Logitech G Hub suite. At the top are the left/right buttons, a tilt scroll wheel, two additional switches, and the Logitech G Shift key on the right side of the mouse.

The 12 side buttons have an RGB zone, but overall the mouse looks more utilitarian and less ‘gamery.’ For connectivity, the mouse comes with a braided USB cable that’s 2.1 meters long.

Our WoW testers really enjoyed their time with the Logitech G600 MMO Gaming Mouse. The mouse was an absolute joy to use. The only minor criticism was the mouse’s rather bare-bones and bland looks. The G600 looks more like an office mouse than anything else.

Overall, the G600 is a great mouse for WoW players longing for a competitive edge over their rivals.

9.4
Logitech G600 MMO

  • Built for comfort: Sculpted shape and tuned buttons reduce click fatigue during marathon multiplayer sessions; G8 cycle modes

Logitech G604 Lightspeed – Best MMO Mouse for Mac

Our top recommendation for MMO players on Apple Macs is the wireless MMO mouse Logitech G604 Lightspeed. The G604 is a fantastic wireless MMO mouse Logitech has rolled out in the past few years, and for very good reasons.

But let’s talk about specs first: The Logitech G604 is slightly on the larger side at 5.12 x 3.15 x 1.77 inches. It’s also the second heaviest mouse in this test at 136 grams, only behind the mammoth-sized Asus ROG Spatha X.

Powering the Logitech G604 Lightspeed is the legendary Hero 25K optical sensor, good for a staggering DPI of 25,600. The Hero, 25K sensor, supports a tracking speed of 400 IPS with 40g acceleration, a 1,000Hz polling rate, 1 ms latency, and a lift-off distance of 1.2mm.

At the side of the mouse are six programmable buttons. At the top are the usual left/right buttons, a tilt scroll wheel, and dual fire keys at the top left corner. Lastly, the scroll wheel is accompanied by two switches at the bottom. In total, there are 15 programmable buttons.

For connectivity, the mouse uses Logitech’s fantastic LightSpeed wireless technology that offers latencies comparable to a wired mouse. The mouse also supports Bluetooth connectivity. However, it is worth mentioning that Bluetooth will bring the mouse’s polling rate down to just 125Hz.

As expected, the Logitech G604 performed great in testing. The only minor criticism is the fewer programmable buttons on the side of the mouse.

But overall, this is a great mouse for Mac users.

9.4
Logitech G604 LIGHTSPEED
  • 15 programmable controls: include 6 thumb buttons; fully programmable with G hub software
  • DUAL CONNECTIVITY: Toggle between convenient Bluetooth and ultra fast 1 mms LIGHTSPEED advanced wireless technology. Bluetooth report rate: 88 133 Hz (7.5 11.25 ms)
  • Hero 25K sensor through a software update from G HUB, this upgrade is free to all players: Our most advanced, with 1:1 tracking, 400-plus ips, and 100 - 25,600 max dpi sensitivity plus zero smoothing, filtering, or acceleration

Logitech G502 Hero – Best MMO Mouse for FPS

The Logitech G502 Hero is the best MMO mouse Reddit 2023’s community chose, and for very good reasons.

In terms of size, the G502 Hero is a mid-sized mouse that’s neither too big nor too small at 5.2 x 2.95 x 1.57 inches, which should explain its immense popularity. Unfortunately, it’s on the heavier side at 121 grams. Surprisingly enough, you can bring that heft up to 139 grams via 5 x 3.6-gram weights.

Just like the G604 Lightspeed, the G502 is powered by the Hero 25K optical sensor. The specs are the same with 25,600 DPI, 40g acceleration, 400 IPS tracking, and lastly, 1,000Hz polling rate with 1 ms latency. But unlike the G604, the G502 Hero is a wired USB mouse that comes with a 2.1-meter cable.

The Hero G502 has 11 buttons in total. At the side are three programmable buttons. At the top, there are a tilt scroll wheel with the usual left/right buttons and two DPI selector switches. Lastly, the left click is accompanied by two additional fire buttons.

Just like the G602 Lightspeed, we were extremely impressed by G502’s gaming performance, especially when it comes to MMOFPS games. However, FFXIV and WoW players would be better served with a mouse with more buttons.

9.4
Logitech G502 HERO
  • Hero 25K sensor through a software update from G HUB, this upgrade is free to all players: Our most advanced, with 1:1 tracking, 400-plus ips, and 100 - 25,600 max dpi sensitivity plus zero smoothing, filtering, or acceleration
  • 11 customizable buttons and onboard memory: Assign custom commands to the buttons and save up to five ready to play profiles directly to the mouse
  • Adjustable weight system: Arrange up to five removable 3.6 grams weights inside the mouse for personalized weight and balance tuning

EVGA X15 – Best MMO Mouse for FFXIV

As you may be aware, EVGA is a company well-known for its high-end graphics cards. What you may not know is that they also make gaming mice. And the X15 gaming mouse is their flagship MMO mouse, which we highly recommend to FFXIV players.

But first, let’s get the basic specs out of the way: Unlike most MMO mice in this test, the X15 has a relatively slender body with a dimension of 4.86 x 2.82 x 1.68 inches.

Basically, it’s just 0.2 inches wider than the narrowest mouse in this test, the Mad Catz B.A.T. 6+. But unfortunately, it’s a bit on the heavier side at 123 grams.

Powering the EVGA X15 is a Pixart PMW3389 optical sensor with a DPI of 16,000, 400 IPS tracking speed, and an acceleration of 50g. But here’s the crazy part: The mouse polling rate is a staggering 8,000Hz with a latency of just 0.125 milliseconds! Impressive, but also an overkill.

At the side of the mouse are ten programmable buttons. At the top are two fire keys, two DPI switches, and a tilt scroll wheel. In total, there are 20 programmable buttons.

In testing, the EVGA X15 performed superbly in FFXIV. Our smaller hand testers really liked the narrow, sleek design of the X15 and found it to be extremely comfortable.

9.4
EVGA X15 MMO Gaming Mouse
  • USB2.0 High-Speed 32-bit Arm Cortex-M33 core microprocessor, supporting a native 8K Hz report rate. Eight times the standard 1K Hz on competing gaming mice for faster response time and precise movements
  • Light Strike LK Optical switches are designed to provide faster and better stability. The switches are quicker than any mechanical switch and more durable, reaching a life span of 70 million clicks
  • 5 customizable onboard profiles with on the fly DPI settings allow you to take your mouse anywhere

Razer Naga Wireless – Best Wireless MMO Mouse

Last but not least, we have a Razer wireless MMO mouse, namely the highly customizable Razer Naga Wireless. We highly recommend this Razer MMO mouse to people looking for a potent wireless mouse.

In terms of size, the Razer Naga Wireless is comparable to EVGA’s X15 at 4.7 x 2.8 x 1.7 inches, which itself is a very manageable gaming mouse. It’s also slightly lighter than the X15 at 117 grams.

Powering the gadget is Razer’s own Focus+ optical sensor, good for 20,000 DPI, 50g acceleration, and 650 IPS tracking speed. The polling rate is 1,000Hz with 1 ms latency and a lift-off distance of 2.4mm.

In terms of buttons, the mouse has swappable side plates, and you can choose between 2, 6, and 12-button configurations. For MMO players, our recommendation is undoubtedly the full 12 buttons layout.

For connectivity, the mouse uses Razer’s proprietary HyperSpeed wireless technology that aims to offer latencies comparable to wired mice, and in our experience, it works extremely well!

The mouse has an internal rechargeable battery that offers a battery life of up to 150 hours. And sure enough, despite our hours of extensive testing, the mouse never missed a beat.

Overall, the Razer Naga Pro is a great wireless mouse and our top pick for wireless MMO mice.

9.4

What MMO Mouse Does Asmongold Use?

Popular WoW streamer Asmongold with over five million subscribers on YouTube and Twitch combined, uses the SteelSeries Rival 700 gaming mouse. SteelSeries Rival 700 is a compact RGB mouse with a 16,000 DPI and a polling rate of 1,000Hz.

How to Choose an MMO Mouse

To choose the best MMO gaming mouse, you’ve to consider the following specifications:

1. DPI

DPI, i.e., “Dots Per Inch” is the unit of measurement for a mouse’s tracking sensitivity.

Higher DPIs are a double-edged sword when it comes to MMOs. Higher mouse sensitivity is great when you’re trying to make a quick 180 or 360-degree turn, but not so much when you’re trying to take a precise headshot.

2. Build Type

Build type is another important factor when choosing an MMO mouse. MMO mice should boast highly ergonomic designs, making them suitable for long gaming sessions.

Also, popular MMO games typically have lots of keys, and it can get overwhelming to efficiently assign them to a keyboard. MMO mice also address this issue by offering at least six programmable buttons, which can be reassigned to any key or combo.

3. Tracking Speed

A mouse’s tracking speed refers to the mouse’s rate of linear motion. Higher tracking speeds offer better crosshair precision and a higher overall DPI.

When it comes to MMOs, a mouse with a higher tracking speed—measured in IPS or ‘Inches Per Second’—is always preferable.

4. Polling Rate

Polling rate—measured in Hertz—is the amount of time a mouse transmits its input data to the computer. For example, a mouse polling rate of 1,000Hz will transmit data 1,000 times to the computer each second.

For MMO players, the sweet spot is 500Hz. While a 1,000Hz polling rate is technically superior, you’d be hard-pressed to notice any discernible difference between 500 and 1,000Hz. Plus, higher polling rates add additional CPU latency, worsening your frame rate.

So, 500Hz is a good compromise between performance and latency.

Frequently Asked Questions about MMO Gaming Mouse

Are MMO Mice Good for FPS?

Yes. MMO mice are multi-purpose gaming mice, equally well suited for competitive FPS gaming. The highly popular and versatile Logitech G502 is a perfectly good example of an MMO mouse suitable for FPS.

Is the G502 a Good MMO mouse?

Absolutely! The Logitech G502 supports 11 programmable buttons, and you can assign various combos and macros to all of these buttons via the Logitech G Hub suite.

What DPI Mouse Should You Use for MMO?

Our MMO gaming experts recommend a DPI setting of between 1,000 and 1,600 DPI. A lower DPI will make the mouse too sluggish, while a higher DPI will make the mouse over-sensitive and difficult to control.

Do You Need an MMO Mouse for Playing WoW?

Yes. While you can use a regular office mouse to play WoW, you’ll be at a massive competitive disadvantage due to the lack of buttons and general customizability. Hence we highly recommend MMO players buy a dedicated MMO mouse.

Conclusion

This concludes our comprehensive look at the top 10 best gaming mice for FFXIV, WoW, as well as other MMO gaming titles. All of the mice in this test not only excel at eSports gaming, but they will also serve you well in everyday usage, as well as casual gaming.

None of the mice in this list can be considered ‘bad’ by any stretch of the word. You can’t go wrong with any of them, so it all boils down to your own personal preference and requirements.
