What Is a MOBA Mouse?

A MOBA mouse is a gaming mouse designed specifically for competitive MOBA eSports. They feature a programmable button grid on the side which can be customized according to different gameplay styles. Designed for precision, accuracy, and ergonomics, these mice come with large, comfortable grips to reduce hand fatigue associated with prolonged gaming sessions.

MOBA games require players to manage multiple weapons, spells, perks, and abilities, which can be challenging to execute using a standard office mouse. MOBA gaming mice solve that problem by allowing gamers to manage complex commands and abilities on the fly.

The Makings of the Best Moba Mouse

MOBA gaming mice aim to fill a particular niche, so to zero in on the perfect MOBA mice, we scoured the internet, especially the best MOBA Mouse Reddit threads and subreddits such as r/DOTA2, r/LeagueofLegends, r/Logitech, r/Razer, r/Corsair, to name a few.

We contacted the massive subreddit user bases to know their opinions on the best MOBA mice and what features they value when making a MOBA mouse purchase.

Then, our team of experts carefully analyzed the reviews and feedback of every single product. Our primary focus was the specs that matter to MOBA players, such as ergonomics, comfort, programmable side buttons, optical sensor accuracy, lift-off distance, polling rate, click response time, macro function, and overall customizability.

Eventually, we narrowed our list to 17 potential candidates and decided to test them first-hand to better understand what makes them squeak. After weeks of rigorous testing, we finally handpicked the top 10 MOBA mice – the rest didn’t make the cut!

So without any further delay, let’s cut straight to the chase!

Logitech G903 LightSpeed – Best Logitech MOBA Mouse & Best MOBA Gaming Mouse Overall

The Logitech G903 LightSpeed is the best Logitech mouse for MOBA players looking for a sleek, ambidextrous gaming mouse with super low-latency wireless technology.

In terms of design, the G903 LightSpeed is a long yet slim mouse at 5.12 x 2.64 x 1.57 inches. Come to think of it, it’s the second-longest mouse in this test, only behind the Logitech G502 Hero. Fortunately, the weight has been kept relatively low at 110 grams.

At the heart of the Logitech G903 LightSpeed is the legendary Hero 25K optical mouse sensor that’s good for a staggering 25,600 DPI. This is the second-highest DPI mouse sensor currently available, only behind Razer’s Focus Pro 30K optical sensor. In addition, It’s good for 40G acceleration, 400 IPS tracking speed, and offers a polling rate of 1,000 Hz at 1 ms latency.

Since the G903 has an ambidextrous design (also making it the best MOBA gaming mouse for left-handed gamers), there are two side buttons on each side of the mouse for a total of 4.

On top are the usual left and right buttons, a scroll wheel, a hyper-scroll wheel, and DPI selector switches. There are 11 buttons in total, an adequate number for MOBA gaming.

For connectivity, the G03 uses Logitech’s now signature LightSpeed wireless technology, which is also used in the Logitech G Pro line of wireless gaming mice. The LightSpeed technology lends minimal input latency compared to a wired gaming mouse.

In testing, the G903 LightSpeed quickly rose to the top. With its ambidextrous design, manageable weight, and sleek and slim body, it became a favorite with our testers. And as to be expected from a top-tier Logitech product, the G903 LightSpeed felt right at home playing LoL and DOTA2.

A great MOBA mouse, all things considered.

  • Light speed wireless: pro-grade 1 ms report rate, no cable drag, no compromises on weight or battery life; eSports professionals depend on lightspeed’s responsiveness and reliable connectivity

Razer Basilisk V3 – Best Razer MOBA Mouse

Razer Basilisk V3 is a fantastic MOBA gaming mouse from Razer that ticks all the boxes at a very accessible price tag.

First, the design: The Razer Basilisk V3 follows the design aesthetic of Logitech’s legendary G502 Hero gaming mouse, which isn’t exactly bad as the G502 has been the best-selling gaming mouse for several years now, and for good reasons.

At 5.11 x 2.95 x 1.65 inches, it’s slightly longer (0.09”) and taller (0.08”) than the Logitech G502, but the width is kept the same (2.95”). It’s worth mentioning that while the G502 Hero weighs in at 121 grams, the Razer Basilisk V3 is noticeably lighter at just 101 grams.

Powering the mouse is Razer’s iconic Focus+ 26K optical sensor that’s good for 26,000 DPI with 650 IPS tracking, 50G acceleration, with a polling rate of 1,000 Hz at 1 ms latency. While the new and improved Focus Pro has recently replaced the Focus+, it’s still a capable gaming sensor.

Like the Logitech G502, the Razer Basilisk V3 offers 11 programmable buttons. At the side of the mouse are three programmable buttons, and at the top are:

  • The usual left/right buttons.
  • A two-way HyperScroll tilt wheel.
  • A DPI selector switch –standard stuff for a MOBO mouse.

Like most Razer gaming mice, the Basilisk V3 comes with Razer’s 2nd gen. Optical switches with an actuation period of just 0.2ms and a lifespan of up to 70 million clicks. Also, Razer has eliminated double-clicking issues with these optical switches.

As for gaming, the Razer Basilisk V3 was well-liked by our testers. It proved a capable piece of hardware for DOTA2 and LoL, even though a few testers commented on the lack of optical switch tactility.

All in all, the Basilisk V3 is a great mouse for competitive MOBA gaming.

Razer Basilisk V3 Customizable Ergonomic Gaming Mouse

  • HYPERSCROLL TILT WHEEL - Speed through content with a scroll wheel that free-spins until its stopped or switch to tactile mode for more precision and satisfying feedback that’s ideal for cycling through weapons or skills

SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless – Best SteelSeries MOBA Mouse

The Aerox 9 Wireless RGB Gaming Mouse is a compelling offering introduced by SteelSeries for MOBA players.

Let’s start with the design: the Aerox 9 features SteelSeries’ iconic ‘honeycomb’ shell with slick RGB lights. While a honeycomb shell may sound like a bad idea on paper (as spillage may damage the internals), in practice, it’s a non-issue because the Aerox 9 is IP54 certified and protects against water, dirt, and dust particles.

Regarding size, the SteelSeries Aerox 9 has a relatively slender body at 5.07 x 2.68 x 1.65 inches. It’s longer than most mice in this test, but at the same time, noticeably slimmer and lighter at just 89 grams. Overall, most people will find the Aerox 9 to be highly manageable and comfortable.

As for the specs, the Aerox 9 is powered by SteelSeries’ in-house TrueMove Air optical sensor, which offers a DPI of 18,000 with 40G acceleration and 400 IPS tracking and a polling rate of 1,000 Hz at 1 ms latency. Though not up to par with Logitech’s Hero 25K or Razer’s Focus Pro, or even the older Focus+, it’s still a highly capable mouse sensor.

In terms of input, the SteelSeries Aerox 9 has a total of 18 programmable buttons. Twelve of them are located on the left side of the mouse in a 4 x 3 grid, while at the top are the usual left/right buttons, a tilt scroll wheel, and of course, a DPI switch. The switches are from Golden Micro and are suitable for up to 80 million clicks.

In gaming, the dozen side buttons really came in handy! And while some testers did note that the TrueMove Air sensor isn’t up to par with the best, it’s still a formidable ally on the MOBA battlefield.

To conclude, Aerox 9 is a fantastic purchase.

9.4
SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless – Ultra-Lightweight
  • Ultra Lightweight Design - one of the lightest MMO/MOBA mice at 89g, perfect for long gaming sessions in games like Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2, Elder Scrolls Online, League of Legends, DotA 2, and many more.
  • Total Customization - 18 programmable buttons with a 12-button side panel and a tilt-click scroll wheel for tons of shortcuts to abilities and macros. Customize every click with ease using SteelSeries Engine.
  • All-Around Protection - Rated IP54, AquaBarrier shields the mouse from water, dust, dirt, and more.

Corsair Scimitar Pro RGB – Best Corsair MOBA Mouse

The Corsair Scimitar Pro RGB is the best MMO mouse Corsair has to offer, and it also works great across all MOBA games.

The Scimitar Pro has a product dimension of 4.7 x 3.03 x 1.67 inches and weighs 147 grams, which makes it the tallest and the heaviest mouse in this test by a significant margin (making the Scimitar Pro RGB the best MOBA gaming mouse for big hands, as well).

For reference, the second heaviest mouse in this test, the UtechSmart Venus Pro, weighs 20 grams less!

Moving on, the Corsair Scimitar Pro RGB is powered by PixArt’s PMW3367 optical sensor. The sensor in question, while outsourced, can produce 16,000 DPI, 50G acceleration, 300 IPS tracking, and a 1,000Hz polling rate at 1 ms. Although a decent offering, the sensor’s tracking speed feels lackluster at just 300 IPS, the lowest in this test.

Another area where the Corsair Scimitar Pro RGB needs improvement is the switches. Unfortunately, Corsair chose to go with standard OMRON switches, with a life expectancy of just around 20 million clicks. While our review unit didn’t have any issues, on account of being a brand-new product, we suspect things might change sooner rather than later.

As for input, the Scimitar Pro has 12 programmable side buttons in a standard 4 x 3 grid pattern. Aside from that, it’s a regular mouse with the usual left/right click buttons at the top, accompanied by a clickable scroll-wheel and DPI switches.

In testing, the Corsair Scimitar Pro RGB didn’t disappoint. It was well-liked by most testers and performed great in DOTA2 and LoL, though our smaller-handed testers didn’t particularly like its heft and height. So, if you’ve got small hands, this mouse may not be the one for you.

9.4
Corsair Scimitar Pro RGB - MMO Gaming Mouse - 16,000 DPI Optical Sensor - 12 Programmable Side Buttons - Black
  • Exclusive key slider macro button control system. Compatibility - A PC with a USB port , Windows 10, Windows 8 or Windows 7

  • The patent pending design provides 8 millimeter of key travel with secure lock to ensure every button is within reach. Surface calibration tuning utility: Optimizes sensor for your playing surface

HyperX Pulsefire Haste – Best HyperX MOBA Mouse

HyperX Pulsefire Haste is affordable, performs well, and is fun to use, making it a must-add to this list.

In terms of size, the Pulsefire Haste is a relatively compact mouse at 4.89 x 2.63 x 1.5 inches. During our research, we saw some Redditors comparing it with Logitech’s G903, affectionately calling it a baby G903, which isn’t far from the truth!

It is slimmer than the G90 (0.36”) and weighs almost half as much at 59 grams! So if you’ve got small hands or are a left-hander, then this is the mouse for you.

Powering the HyperX Pulsefire Haste is the PixArt PMW3335 optical sensor rated for 16,000 DPI, 40G acceleration, and 450 IPS tracking with a latency of 1 ms, thanks to its 1,000Hz polling rate – usual stuff for gaming mice within this price bracket.

For input, the HyperX Pulsefire Haste has six programmable buttons, two buttons on the side, accompanied by the usual left/right buttons, a clickable scroll-wheel, and a DPI switch at the top. In addition, HyperX chose to go with TTC Golden switches, rated for up to 60 million clicks.

The HyperX Pulsefire Haste offers wireless and wired connectivity (our particular review unit was wired and came with a 5.91 feet long cable). HyperX has dubbed this cable “Hyperflex Cable,” but it’s just a regular braided cable that’s lightweight, durable, and highly flexible. Lastly, the company offers an impressive two-year limited warranty, given the mouse’s budget-friendly price tag.

Regarding gaming, the HyperX Pulsefire Haste is a compelling option and will be a great addition to your competitive MOBA games arsenal. However, some of our testers noted the lack of buttons. But on the other hand, our smaller hand testers really liked its lightweight and compact design.

9.4
HyperX Pulsefire Haste
  • Ultra-light hex shell design: The honeycomb shell provides feather-light weight without sacrificing durability.
  • HyperFlex USB Cable: The light, flexible paracord material reduces tension and resistance for easier mouse movement.
  • TTC Golden micro dustproof switches: These switches provide solid, satisfying clicks and are rated for 60 million clicks.

ROCCAT Kone XP – Best ROCCAT MOBA Mouse

Kone XP is an excellent and versatile MOBA mouse from the veteran manufacturer ROCCAT.

When it comes to dimensions and overall design, the Kone XP stands at 4.9 x 2.99 x 1.57 inches and closely mimics the design aesthetic of the Logitech G502. However, it’s shorter (0.3”) and slightly wider (0.04”) than the G502, with the exact same height (1.57”).

Powering the Kone XP is the Owl-Eye optical mouse sensor, which is essentially just a rebadged PMW3361 optical sensor from Pixart that’s good for 19,000 DPI, 50G acceleration, and 400 IPS tracking with a polling rate of 1000Hz (1 ms).

The ROCCAT Kone XP features up to 15 programmable buttons, but thanks to ROCCAT Easy-Shift, you can assign up to 29 different keys to the mouse. In addition, there are four buttons on the side, a plus and minus button at the corner for switching between mouse profiles, a 4D scroll wheel, and the usual left/right buttons.

The mouse is equipped with Titan switches, rated for up to a 100 million clicks! To put things into perspective, that’s 10 million more clicks than Razer’s signature 3rd Gen. optical switches.

On the connectivity side, the Kone XP is available in wired and wireless configurations. Our review unit was a wired variant with a long 5.91 feet cable. Finally, the mouse is also ‘pro’ RGB and comes with 22 LEDs and 18 RGB zones with support for ROCCAT’s AIMO RGB suite.

To sum it up, the ROCCAT Kone XP is a compelling option for MOBA players on the hunt for a gaming mouse with stylish and snazzy RGB lighting effects that don’t compromise functionality.

9.4
ROCCAT Kone XP PC Gaming Mouse
  • KRYSTAL 4D WHEEL - Left and right lateral inputs add to the standard vertical click and scroll functionality, all delivered with our signature tactile feel; Made from translucent materials, the Krystal 4D Wheel beautifully diffuses the RGB lighting
  • TITAN SWITCH OPTICAL - Faster than any mechanical switch, the Titan Switch Optical provides a long-lasting 100 million click life cycle, and speed-of-light actuation for unprecedented speed and precision
  • ICONIC SHAPE WITH MULTI-BUTTON DESIGN - The superb ergonomics of the refined, iconic Kone shape ensure comfort; The Kone XP features 15 buttons, and thanks to Easy-Shift[plus ] duplicator technology there are 29 possible button functions

Mad Catz B.A.T. 6+ – Best Mad Catz MOBA Mouse

With its unique modular design, the Mad Catz B.A.T 6+ offers an exciting take on MOBA/MMO gaming mice. Yet despite its modularity and high customizability, it’s still a practical gaming mouse with one of the best mouse grip for MOBA players, period.

The Mad Catz B.A.T 6+ stands at 4.92 x 2.6 x 1.65 inches. As a result, it feels similar to the HyperX Pulsefire Haste (which, if you remember, is 4.89 x 2.63 x 1.5 inches).

However, weight is one factor that sets the two apart. While the Pulsefire Haste weighs 59 grams, the Mad Catz B.A.T 6+ weighs almost twice as much at 115 grams!

Powering the Mad Catz B.A.T 6+ is the Pixart PMW3389 optical gaming sensor, which is good for 16,000 DPI and 50G acceleration with a tracking speed of 400 IPS.

The polling rate is at 2,000Hz, worth mentioning as the figure is exactly two times higher than all the other mice we tested! But don’t get too excited because the figure is overkill unless you’re a superhuman (people generally cannot tell the difference between 1,000 and 2,000Hz).

In terms of input, the Mad Catz B.A.T 6+ features a total of 10 programmable buttons. An ambidextrous mouse, there are two buttons on each side of the mouse, as well as the usual left/right and scroll wheels at the top.

Also, Mad Catz has equipped the B.A.T 6+ with Dakota switches, rated for 60 million clicks.

Customizability is decent; the mouse comes with interchangeable palm rests and side grips, allowing you to fine-tune the mouse’s ergonomics. And as for the gaming performance, it’s right up there with the very best.

Overall, a great mouse for DOTA2 and LoL players.

9.4
Mad Catz B.A.T. 6+ Wired Gaming Mouse - 16000DPI - 10 Programmable Buttons - Patented Dakota Switch - Adjustable Grip - with 2 Interchangeable Palm Rests & 3 Interchangeable Side Skirts - Black
  • True ambidextrous design accommodates every gamer and playing style; side vented design encourages airflow
  • Patented DAKOTA Switch - accelerates the response time to only two milliseconds, 60% faster than mechanical switches; 60-million click lifetime for long-lasting gameplay. PMW3389 optical sensor.
  • Mad Catz Cyborg Engine software lets you customize your settings - set hot keys and macros, create loadout profiles and more; store your favorite 5 user profiles on mouse using on-board memory (sofware compatible with Windows only, available for download)

Logitech G502 Hero – Best MMO Mouse

The Logitech G502 Hero has been a cult classic for years now, and for good reasons. It’s a highly versatile gaming mouse that’s equally good for competitive FPS shooters as for MMO and MOBA games. But that doesn’t mean it’s the same mouse as it was years ago.

For one thing, Logitech has upgraded the G502’s sensor from Hero 16K to Hero 25K. The Hero 25K is suitable for a staggering 25,600 DPI, 40G acceleration, and 400 IPS tracking speed with 1ms latency and 1,000 Hz polling rate.

Like the older variants, the new G502 also comes with Omron switches. However, they’ve improved and are now rated for up to 50 million clicks. Our G502 “Hero” wired variant came with a 6.89 feet long cable, but there’s also a G502 “LightSpeed” variant that features Logitech’s iconic low-latency LightSpeed wireless technology.

This gaming mouse has 11 programmable buttons, three on one side, two trigger buttons, a three-way scroll wheel, the usual left/right buttons, and DPI toggle switches.

Gaming performance is, without a doubt, the highlight of the G502. It’s easily one of the most versatile mice you can buy now. Nostalgic vibes aside, almost our entire team loved using the G502.

It is a bit heavy, though (at 121 grams), but don’t let that take away from the fact that this mouse will serve your MOBA interests well into the future.

9.4
Logitech G502 HERO
  • Hero 25K sensor through a software update from G HUB, this upgrade is free to all players: Our most advanced, with 1:1 tracking, 400-plus ips, and 100 - 25,600 max dpi sensitivity plus zero smoothing, filtering, or acceleration
  • 11 customizable buttons and onboard memory: Assign custom commands to the buttons and save up to five ready to play profiles directly to the mouse
  • Adjustable weight system: Arrange up to five removable 3.6 grams weights inside the mouse for personalized weight and balance tuning

Razer Viper V2 Pro HyperSpeed – Best Wireless MMO Mouse

MMO buffs looking for a compact, lightweight wireless mouse will be hard-pressed to find a better option than Razer’s Viper V2 Pro HyperSpeed.

The V2 Pro stands at 4.98 x 2.61 x 1.49 inches, which makes it the slimmest mouse in the test, slightly ahead of the HyperX Pulsefire Haste by 0.02 inches. It’s also a gram lighter than the Pulsefire Haste (at just 58 grams), and ranks as the lightest mouse in this series. To put things into perspective, the Viper V2 Pro weighs less than half of most mice in this test!

Yet despite its feathery weight, the Viper V2 Pro is a beast, featuring the new and improved Razer Focus Pro optical sensor, which is good for a staggering 30,000 DPI. And that means it’s also the fastest mouse in this test by quite a margin (400 DPI)!

So basically, the Razer Viper V2 Pro is the slimmest, lightest, and fastest mouse in this list. So surely it can’t get any better, right? Wrong. Because the Focus Pro 30K sensor also features a class-leading tracking speed of 750 IPS, which is 100 IPS higher than the older Focus+ optical sensor found in the Razer Basilisk V3, another mouse we’ve covered here.

The Viper V2 Pro packs quite a punch in its slim, lightweight body. It’s fun when used for gaming, and our testers enjoyed their time with it. Gamers with smaller hand testers will appreciate the slim chassis and its performance features.

However, there’s one minor caveat: The Viper V2 Pro only offers up to 6 programmable buttons, probably due to its slim, lightweight nature. Not a deal breaker, but something worth mentioning.

9.4
Razer Viper V2 Pro HyperSpeed
  • 58g Ultra-lightweight Design: One of the lightest esports mice ever created and offers a level of speed and control favored by the world’s top esports pros
  • Focus Pro 30K Optical Sensor: Best-in-class precision via flawless tracking performance on a wider variety of surfaces including glass
  • Optical Mouse Switches Gen-3: Improved 90-million click lifecycle with zero double-clicking issues and 0.2ms actuation provides reliability and speed built for esports

UtechSmart Venus Pro – Best Budget MOBA Mouse

The UtechSmart Venus Pro makes a compelling argument for being the best budget MOBA mouse in the market.

To start, the UtechSmart Venus Pro has a dimension of 4.7 x 3.2 x 1.6 inches. So while the length and height are comparable to Corsair’s Scimitar Pro, the Venus Pro is actually even wider by 0.17 inches.

Although there’s no doubt that the Scimitar Pro is a big boy at 147 grams, the Venus Pro is actually 20 grams lighter at 127 grams. However, it’s still 6 grams heavier than the Logitech G502, which isn’t exactly lightweight, to begin with.

Powering the Venus Pro is the Pixart PMW3335 optical sensor, which is good for 16,000 DPI, 40G acceleration, and 450 IPS tracking with a polling rate of 1,000 Hz.

Despite its budget-friendly price tag, the Venus Pro is a wireless mouse with 2.4G wireless connectivity. Plus, there’s an integrated 1,000 mAh battery that can last up to 70 hours, which is pretty decent if you ask us.

For gaming, the mouse features 12 side buttons in a standard 4 x 3 grid. There are a total of 16 programmable buttons, which are more than plenty for DOTA2 and LoL players.

Not much else to comment on – just a well-priced budget MOBA mouse.
