However, the speed dropped to 236Mbps when we moved 50ft away from it. Some things we didn’t like about RE705X include its high price, the lack of a USB port, and the extender running hot. Also, it can’t extend a Wi-Fi 6E 6GHz signal.

A NETGEAR Wi-Fi Analyzer app helps find the best spot, and there are 10 LEDs for connection status.  You can also use the extender in an Orbi mesh network, but it’ll act as an extender, not a full mesh node. Four internal high-powered antennas provide reliable indoor and outdoor coverage. 

While one USB port and four 1 Gigabit ports also allow maximum speed and connection efficiency. In our tests, the EAX80 proved excellent at extending our Wi-Fi into previously dead zones. The setup took 15-20 minutes, and the Nighthawk app was user-friendly. 

We achieved impressive speeds on 5GHz with our smartphone just 10 feet from the extender (530 Mbps with no lag). At 50 feet, it gave us 269 Mbps, and one floor above, we got 301 Mbps. However, we didn’t like that it only offers 90 days of support for connection assistance. Also, it’s a bit on the pricey side and somewhat bulky.

It also has an AP Mode to create a new Wi-Fi access point via the Gigabit Ethernet port, enhancing your wired network with Wi-Fi capability. We easily set up the TP-Link AX5400 Tri-Band RE815X during our tests using the Tether app, which took about 10-15 minutes.

It performed flawlessly, providing a strong and consistent signal. The extender also has vents to prevent overheating. We reached a peak speed of 532 Mbps on 5GHz with our smartphone just 10 feet away, and there was no lag. Even at 50 feet, it managed 149 Mbps.

It helped extend Wi-Fi to distant devices, but dead zones remained an issue. Also, if your primary router already supports Wi-Fi 6, this extender isn’t ideal. It’ll work, but you won’t benefit from the faster 802.11ax speeds.

In our tests, setting up the X6S only took 15 minutes. It impressed us with a peak speed of 526 Mbps on 5GHz when our smartphone was just 10 feet away, without any lag. 

Even at 50 feet, it managed 160 Mbps, sufficient for streaming 4K content. A bonus is the built-in DLNA server, allowing video streaming from the Nighthawk to a computer, phone, or smart TV. However, the X6S is a bit bulky and doesn’t have Wi-Fi 6 capabilities, and we found the desktop design less convenient.

Setting up the AC750 in our tests was easier and quicker than other Netgear extenders. We liked its compact size, and it’s a good match for slower internet plans. Testing it with a 200Mbps connection, we achieved 120 Mbps on its 5GHz band at 10 feet. 

The signal held up reasonably well at 50 feet, but there was some understandable lag, given its limited range. We retested it at 30 feet and got 95 Mbps. However, the antenna placement leaves much to be desired. Whether you fold or position them on the sides, they tend to move around and don’t feel very stable.

This extender features two external antennas, one wired LAN port, and four LED indicators on the front. During our tests, setting up the AX1750 extender using the Tether app took only 10 minutes. 

We achieved 105 Mbps speed on the 2.4GHz band at 10 feet and 15 Mbps at 50 feet. On the 5GHz band, it delivered 360Mbps at 10 feet and 210Mbps at 50 feet, although it displayed some signal issues at the back of our house. 

Our Skype call kept dropping. Moreover, we aren’t fans of its bulky design, and it’s worth noting that you need a OneMesh router to share a single SSID.
