Bethesda announced that Doom – one of its most successful shooters, is slated to receive an update. The 6.66 update brings a bunch of cool fixes and retires the Season Pass. In other words, players can access the multiplayer DLC content for free. Aside from that, the 6.66 update revises the multiplayer progression system.
Now, players can access the Bloodfall, Unto the Evil, and Hell Followed packs free of charge. These include a total of nine maps, three playable demons, three guns, as well as special abilities and armor customizations. Previously, players were able to access these features upon purchasing a season pass for all the DLC at a price of $39.99. The 6.66 update also changes how players unlock demons, guns, and equipment. The new multiplayer progression system replaces all player and weapon customization options.
In addition, the 6.66 update overhauls the existing DOOM’s unlocking system. Doom players will no longer have to rely on a random unlocking system. It is replaced by specific leveling requirements or in-game challenges. The change will affect both novice and veteran players.
Nevertheless, Bethesda officials decided to compliment veteran players who have purchased the DLC. They have to choose between two options. Veteran players can either reset their unlock progression items and experience the new progression system or keep all items they have previously acquired such as demons, guns, equipment, and unlock the remaining items via the revised system.
No matter which of the two options veteran players settle for, they will be granted a special badge as a recognition to their experience. Those who have achieved the Slayer level will be awarded special Slayer badges.
Players who have not tried the game yet now have the opportunity to purchase a digital copy at a reduced price. Xbox One and PC players can also take advantage of the free weekend starting on Thursday, July 20th at 12:00 for Xbox One consoles, and at 1 pm for PC. The free weekend for PlayStation players starts on July 27th.
The free trials provide access to the first two levels of the single-player campaign and unlimited access to the online multiplayer. If a player decides to purchase the game, the progress made during the free trial is carried over to the full purchase.
