Hewlett-Packard introduced the updated laptops and desktop computers from its OMEN gaming lineup – the OMEN 15-inch and OMEN 17-inch laptops, as well as the OMEN desktop computer.
Mike Nash, a Chief Technologist at HP, was contacted to give insights into the new products in HP’s portfolio. He was quoted as saying that the latest updates were a result of company’s efforts to ensure better expandability and upgradability.
The new OMEN laptops have single access panels. The Omen 15” laptop comes with Nvidia GTX 1060 or AMD RX550 graphic cards. Its 17-inch counterpart will feature Nvidia GTX 1070 or AMD RX580. The adopted cooling solutions improve laptops’ thermal durability. They feature twice as many fans as their predecessors.
As for the new OMEN desktop, it ensures access to inside the chassis without the use of tools. Users will be able to access the customization options via the new OMEN Command Center software.
Mr. Nash pointed that a great percentage of users need to manage three or more apps related to their gameplay. As a result, latency issues emerge. He expressed his hopes that the Command Center would make it easier for users to adjust the settings to their personal preferences and prioritize the apps ensuring a smooth gaming experience.
The company has spotted the growing potential of the virtual reality gaming industry and it came as no surprise that both laptops are VR-ready.
HP also introduced an accelerator, suitable for users who do not own a computer from the OMEN lineup. It is a storage add-on that connects to the device via a Thunderbolt cable. Expectations are that HP is going to release graphic card add-ons of Nvidia GTX1070, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, and AMD Radeon RX 580. Storage add-ons of 256 GB SSD, 1TB 5400 rpm HDD, and 1TB 7200 rpm HDD are also said to be on the way.
Currently, OMEN products target performance gamers, looking for the best value for money. The Omen X products are designed with the needs of the “enthusiast gamers” in mind.
Meanwhile, it became clear that Hewlett-Packard has joined forces with Blizzard Entertainment. HP will provide Omen X desktop computers for this year’s Overwatch World Cup events.
