As RealGear reported, Doom is coming to Nintendo Switch sometime in 2017. Console’s owners were excited to know that one of the best first person shooters of all times will be playable on Switch, but up until now, Bethesda representatives have been keeping details close to their chest.
Fortunately, they have broken the silence and confirmed for Engadget that players planning to get the physical version of Doom will have to download the multiplayer separately.
Due to the size of the Nintendo Switch cartridges players who get the physical version of Doom will have to download an update to be able to take part in a multiplayer. As for the single player campaign, it will be accessible along with the DLC released for the game post-launch.
Although players were less than amused by the announcement about the separate download, the truth is that this is the least of their troubles. It turns out that the SnapMap level editor will not be ported over to Nintendo Switch. According to people with knowledge of the matter, the size constraints are the reason for SnapMap’s absence.
Doom players are resentful towards the multiplayer update download as it will take up extra hard drive space. However, at one point, they will have to think about getting some additional storage space anyway. The growing console’s library will leave Switch owners with no choice but to purchase a SD card to gain full access to the games. Despite being a slight inconvenience, many Switch owners will choose it over not getting the games at all.
