Esports history was made in Shanghai, at the recently concluded The Dota 2 International competition. With a 3-1 win, OG has defended the crown against Team Liquid in the Grand Finals. Any ambition by Team Liquid to get the Aegis of Champions in The International 9 was successfully thwarted. Now OG is the first team in history to have back-to-back victories.
OG Vs. Team Liquid
The finals kicked-off with Team Liquid dominating the game. Liquid had fought to the Grand Finals with an 11-1 score in the lower bracket and managed to take the first game from OG.
However, the tables turned when OG easily cruised through the next three games, dominating Liquid at every turn. Team fights favored the European players. Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen proved to be the biggest hurdle for Liquid, as he scored kills repeatedly as the Monkey King and Gyrocopter.
It was obvious that Liquid attempted to regroup at some point, but it was too late. There was no stopping OG. With another Topson killstreak and one more team wipe at the 24-minute mark in the game, the final push of OG ended in them claiming their second straight Aegis of Champions.
Biggest Prize Pool
For their triumph, OG was awarded the lion’s share of one of the largest prize pools in esports history. The team walked away with a staggering $15,609,462. Team Liquid had their share of $4,459,846 in prize money.
The International is going to enter its 10th year in 2020. That tournament will be held at Stockholm, Sweden.
