Late Hero?

In a developer update that was rolled out today, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan has shared some of the game’s content schedule. Kaplan has also confirmed that the next Overwatch hero will be entering the field a bit later than fans anticipated.

In the update video, Kaplan discusses changes along with Overwatch’s improved cheat detection system.

Behind Schedule

Since its launch, on May 24th, 2016, Blizzard’s Overwatch has released new heroes and held seasonal events at a somewhat regular schedule.

Past Heroes have usually arrived in March, July, and November every year on a routine, which means that the next hero, who will be the 31st one, is scheduled to arrive sometime this month.

However, Kaplan reiterated that the upcoming hero is currently under development but will be showing up a bit later than expected. His emphasizing on the pronoun ‘He’ gives us our first hint about the identity of the newest hero.

“He’ll be here soon enough, so don’t worry,” Kaplan said. “We think a little bit of extra time is going to make the hero even more awesome.”

New Updates

In the past, the Summer Games Seasonal event has usually occurred during August every year. However, this year, Kaplan has said that unlike the delayed hero, the event will actually arrive sooner than expected.

Kaplan also introduced several new features, specifically expanded subtitles as well as new automatic cheat detection systems. That feature is currently being tested on the Overwatch PTR will presumably hit the live servers soon.
