During the E3 2017 Event, Razer announced that a new product would be added to company’s lineup. The Thresher Ultimate wireless headset is designed with console gamers in mind. The Thresher works with Xbox One S as well as the upcoming One X that will be released in November. However, PC players got a confirmation that the Thresher is fully compatible with PCs, too.
What makes the Thresher different from the previous Razer-branded headsets for PC, is the availability of an audio hub base station. Unlike most headsets, it does not rely on a wireless USB adapter to ensure a good signal. The headset uses the 2.4GHz wireless connection and offers a range of 150 feet provided that there are no obstructions in the way.
The Thresher Ultimate features 50mm neodymium magnet drivers as well as controls for master volume and microphone adjustment. The 7.1 Dolby surround sound technology is also integrated. According to Razer’s representatives, the battery requires a 4-hour charging to ensure 16 hours of intense headset usage.
In terms of design, Razer emphasizes on comfort. The headset comes with a durable aluminium band and a soft padded cushion. This is also the first Razer over-ear headset that promises utmost comfort to users who wear glasses. The PS4 version features blue highlights, while the Xbox-compatible model is decked out in green.
Min-Liang Tan, Razer’s CEO and co-founder, commented on the soon-to-be-launched headset. He was quoted as saying that the Thresher will be a contender for the “best-sounding wireless console headsets” title.
The announcement about the Thresher Ultimate release and the proclamation that this will be the best headset on the market, made Razer fans compare the model to its predecessors. Gamers with a soft spot for Razer products said that the Thresher price corresponds to the claims about its exclusive features. The headset is expected to hit the shelves later in June. The Thresher will cost $250.
