According to information published on the US and EU PlayStation blogs, Sony is about to release an updated version of the flagship Gold Wireless Stereo Headset for its PlayStation 4 consoles. The New Sony Gold Wireless headset “maintains everything you loved” and comes with certain design and audio quality improvements.
The new Gold Wireless headset is not as bulky as the previous model, and it seems Sony has addressed the issues that emerge during prolonged use. To remedy the situation, they have “refined” the ear cushions. The updated headset also has a 7.1 surround sound, but the availability of two hidden noise-canceling microphones make it superior to its predecessor.
The headset also ships with a 3.5mm jack that enables users to connect the headset to PS VR or mobile devices.
Despite being compatible with PSVR, the headset does not feature an internal amp. In other words, the passive connection makes the sound much quieter on occasions when the headset is connected to Sony’s VR helmet.
Users are enabled to download the free Companion app in case they want to load and create audio profiles.
The announcement about the upgraded Gold Wireless headset launch caused mixed feelings among the gaming community. According to users, the new headset is not a big deviation from the older version. They emphasized on the more serious issues Sony needs to fix and asked why Sony seems reluctant to add more advanced features such as Bluetooth connectivity.
The new Gold Wireless headset will be available in the US stores this month at a suggested price of $99. At the time of writing, there is no information about EU pricing and availability.
