Nazis have never been a source of fascination to the Wolfenstein series and the developer MachineGames is not afraid of saying it loud and clear. Prior to the game launch, Bethesda released an ad that has received a pretty controversial feedback. The ad, published on Twitter, was said to refer to the complicated political situation in the United States.

Slogans such as “Not My America” and “Not My President” were popular among various civil rights groups and immigrants who opposed the policies and statements of the US President Donald Trump. Trump’s reaction to the Charlottesville riots, and the travel ban implementation, in particular, have led to a massive outcry. Bethesda’s ad comes at a time when the political climate in the United States is still tense.

Consequently, the ad pissed off quite a few customers who claimed that it was inappropriate for a video game to promote language about killing Nazis. Some went even further and accused Bethesda of making a blunt political statement and embedding the game into the contemporary political landscape. At the time of writing, the publisher has not released a statement on the matter.

The Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is a follow up to Wolfenstein: The New Order. The sequel continues the story of the war veteran and Nazi hunter BJ Blazkowicz who is trying to start up another American Revolution and prevent the German stranglehold over occupied America.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is set to launch across all platforms on October 27th.
